White Hart Hotel in Lincoln

Advantages: Close to Historical Landmarks, Friendly Staff, Good Rooms, Stylish
Disadvantages: Expensive Breakfast, Some parts need Refurbishment

...from Leeds where we spent the day out, just off the A15, but in the next 2 hours when we check out we will be taking the A46 to return home (Reading). The hotel provides their own parking just round the side of the hotel, with a small bay which cars strictly shouldn't stay in at all, but seems to be used by taxis to drop people off. Upon arrival we were greeted by very pleasant reception staff who knew a lot about the local area. Asking about local ...
...English Pubs and all about the restaurant they have which was very helpful. Even though a fair few must pass through, Lincoln doesn't feel touristy at all but I may simply be saying this as I am not visiting in-season and the city isn't exactly teeming with life at the moment. Just outside reception is the typical leaflet shelf with various attractions and there seems to be a few things to do in Lincoln. Just outside my room is a fantastic view ...

Over-hyped hotel

Advantages: nice evening meals
Disadvantages: expensive, in need of paint!

...treating ourselves by staying in the infamous White Hart Hotel. All the time that we used to live in Lincoln this hotel was well known for it's so-called excellence and you had to be 'somebody' to be able to afford to stay there so when it came to our anniversary we thought we would really splash out and have a luxurious weekend in this hotel. Needless to say we were disappointed. I think in terms of Lincoln this hotel is something special but ...
...always joke, is behind in the times and so maybe this hotel does seem very posh and well to do to good old Lincoln folk like we used to be but it really isn't anything special and we really can't understand why it is so very much over-hyped. The hotel is very old, it's steeped in history and still has the original White Hart statue outside. When we went on the ghost walk once it featured in many of the tales and there have been lots of royal guests ...

A lovely but maybe slightly over priced hotel

Advantages: unique, lovely area
Disadvantages: expensive, slightly dated

...is why they can charge the prices they do. The hotel is steeped in history and you can tell just by looking at the building of it's age and the stories it could tell if it could. Lincoln is a great place to visit and it's main tourist area is the Steep Hill area of the city. It is called Steep Hill for a reason- it is very steep! There are lots of little tea rooms, gift shops and an award winning restaurant or two in this location. Right in the ...
...a stone's throw from them? The Whit Hart hotel. The White Hart was built in the 14th century as a coaching inn and since then has grown and become a very well known hotel with customers coming back year after year. What are the rooms like? Rooms vary but all are well equipped, however, several that I have been in look as though they could dow ith a bit of a referbishment as they are a little dated and the bathrooms are small. All rooms have been ...

good but not good enough

Advantages: good l coation
Disadvantages: old...decor

...boasted about it's history and the location and it sounded ideal although quite pricey! We booked a double room and managed to get a special offer of £140 for dinner, bed and breakfast and it looked like a good deal. When we arrived our first impressions were that it was indeed old! It is painted white and you can tell just by looking at it that the building is hundreds of years old. It is set on Steep Hill which is the really nice touristy section ...
...place to stay, right in the 'hart' of it all. The reception area was very dark, old red carpets, dark beams, lots of big furniture. It made me feel pretty claustraphobic. The staff were friendly thuogh and we checked into our room. The room was large enough with extra seating and a okay sized batrhoom. IT was clean which was the main thing! The view was of a building though so not great and there was a damp smell hanging in the room which wasn't ...

The White Hart, Lincoln

Advantages: Good setting, salubrious interior
Disadvantages: expensive, poor service

...in Lincoln, I have only the one experience of the White Hart. My cricket club had it's annual presentation dinner there last year. Location Set in the beautiful, historic uphill Bailgate area in the city centre, The White Hart is in the shadow of the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral. This means it is in the upmarket area of the city, meaning that the prices are higher than if it were elsewhere in the city. Prices It has to be said that the prices ...
...meal and nothing else. At the bar before I bought a round of drinks (two pints of lager and a large glass of white) and it came to a shade over £10. This, to me is quite expensive. Food The food was not the highest quality - indeed for the price we paid it was distinctly below average. The starter was just the standard soup and with no spectacular bread rolls or other garnishings it could easily have just been tinned soup! The main course was delightfully ...
