On our recent trip to the Lake District one of the attractions we visited was the The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness by Lake Windermere. We had taken a boat trip from Lakeside up to Bowness with the view of wandering around there and visiting the attraction. Where is it ************* Situated in the town centre of Bowness this was just a five minute walk from the boat pier up to the museum. You can drive to Bowness but the museum doesn't have it own parking so you will need to walk there from which ever car park you choose. Bowness is also served by various bus and train services so is ... more

Advantages Advantages Good location, excellent for children, nice tea room

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price slightly high, souvenir prices

On a recent trip to Lake Windermere, with two young children, it was a given that we would visit the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. We had taken the children a few summers ago, but they didn’t really remember it as they were quite young at the time. It is in a central location and handy for families with children who want to have a break from walking or to get out of the heat in summer. Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit were probably around in most of our childhoods in some various forms and so it was nice to reminisce about my mum reading me Peter Rabbit as a child or playing with a huge ... more

In the Lake District there are many things to see and do, from hiking up the many mountains and hills to cruising along the many Lakes, so it’s easy to understand why so many tourist visit there every single day. But you mention the Lake District to some people, especially the Japanese, and the first name that they say to you is Beatrix Potter. ''And for those who have never heard of Beatrix Potter, here is a brief introduction…'' Beatrix was born in London is 1866 and became one of the best known writers of children’s books in her generation, and possibly beyond. Utterly charming I grew up reading Beatrix potter and I made sure that my children got to enjoy the stories so we were all excited as a family to go and visit the world of Beatrix Potter attraction in the Lake District on holiday. The world of Beatrix Potter is located in Bowness-on-Windermere near to the lake and is easy to find as it is really well signposted throughout the town. It is the only Beatrix Potter themed attraction in the whole of Europe so it was already down as something we had to go and see even before we arrived in Windermere. The beginning of the attraction is a film which ... more
