THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK?

Advantages: Excellent flight prices and good customer service, wide range of european destinations, good leg room
Disadvantages: Poor terminal facilities, discriminatory?

I guess they are and they aren't. Thomsonfly are a budget airline, borne out of the much bigger fish, Thomson and their owners TUI, one of the biggest travel companies in Europe, if not the world. This means they have considerable financial clout and can “move mountains” or at least hold local councils to random, but more about that later. Being on the former Britannia Airways (now Thomson Flights) mailing list, I discovered Thomsonfly probably ...
...out of Coventry. It was quite a fortuitous e-mail. I was looking for flights to Alicante at the time, to take advantage of a holiday apartment we had been offered on the Costa Blanca for a ridiculously cheap price during the school holidays. WHO ARE THEY? As already stated, owned by Thomsons, they are a scheduled budget airline flying out of Coventry to 19 European destinations, including locations Spain, Ireland, Italy, Balearics, Austria, France ...

Well done to a newcomer!

Advantages: Small airport, helpful staff.
Disadvantages: Temporary terminal, poor directions to car park.

I flew with Thompsonfly from Coventry to Venice in April 2004. I booked over the internet which was simple and trouble free. You do not receive tickets or any confirmation through the post, so it is important to print off the confirmation e-mail, or at least make a note of the reference number. Without exception all the staff were friendly, cheerful, and helpful, including the car park attendants, the check-in staff at both ends, and the cabin crew. ...
...catering exclusively for Thomsonfly. When I travelled it had only been operating for two weeks. There were a few teething troubles, but nothing major and I would definitely fly with them again. If you are leaving your car at the airport, give yourself plenty of time to park the car and get to the terminal. There is a discount if you book parking in advance, which we did. They said they would send directions, but in fact they only sent a receipt ...

You get what you pay for

Advantages: Cheap flights, easy to book
Disadvantages: Delays, poor customer service

As a student, holidays are a once every-three-years affair. And after our last journey, flying with Thomsonfly will be a once-in-a-lifetime affair. Cheap flights, yes - punctual flights...ah, no. Our flights were booked on the internet, from Doncaster to Amsterdam International Airport, departure February 23rd and return flight February 27th 2006. Booking Flights - Internet We booked our flights via the thomsonfly.com website. The site is incredibly ...
...dates you want to fly, where you want to fly from and to, and how many people are flying, all using drop down menus which are on the front page. The site then brings up a list of available flights, showing both departures and returns (if you're flying return.) You choose the flights you want, and the next page shows you the total amount of the flights (inc. airport taxes). You're then asked to confirm your booking, input the passengers' details, ...

who said dodo's were extinct?

Advantages: They can fly me there quicker than I could fly myself
Disadvantages: I'd rather strap a couple of pigeons to me and fly myself!

Now, I have left writing this review for a few weeks since returning from my holiday, in that my opinion may now be balanced having calmed down from my awful experience with this airline!! And so to my balanced review.......... I am lucky enough to have parents who own a small house in Playas Flemenca, a 40 minute drive from either Alicante or Murcia airports (very convenient). They have owned the villa for around 4 years and myself and the bloke ...
...twice a year if I can find cheap enough flights (can you tell I'm from Yorkshire?!), which seems to have become something of an obsession of mine!! I have always until this year been a keen user of EasyJet, for their prices, the ease of booking on the internet, the overall service and because they flew from East Midlands (sorry, Nottingham East Midlands as it now likes to call itself), which is a 40 minute drive from said blokies family, and is ...

Humans as cattle.

Advantages: pre-booked seats
Disadvantages: very little legroom

Thomsonfly (not thompsonfly as the name of this category suggests), formerly Britannia Airways, is the charter airline of the Thomson travel agent (formerly Lunn Poly) and the Thomson Holidays tour operator, all of which are owned by parent company TUI, the german mega-company. I have only been on one pair of Thomsonfly flights, and this was only due to me leaving the booking to the last minute, and that being the cheapest available option - I wouldn't ...
...I did a piece of A level economics coursework about this market, and discovered that Thomson and the other three big operators are rated the worst for customer satisfaction. However, I was reasonably impressed with them. They sent the tickets through fairly quickly, they came printed in a book with a whole host of information about the holiday, and with tags to put on our bags. The seats were also numbered, which was nice, as I am used to flights ...

Rubbish customer relations.Has anyone succeeded in getting through to the help desk.Beware they do not answer the phone and its a high rate call number.Checked with BT have spent £11 so far and still cant get through.Resorted to email dont bother answering these either.Flight from Malaga - Cov was 9 hour delay.Advised by Thompson ground staff to purchase tickets on another flight and claim original back as over 5 hour delay should get a full refund.Filled in forms allocated to us by Thompson staff sent away 3 weeks on still waiting for any sort of correspondence. Communication!

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor customer relations

I hope that I am reviewing the correct company because I am actually reviewing thomsonfly (without the "p") according to their website. My initial experience with them, when I booked a flight for my wife and me, was fine. They wer very helpful and pleasant. In fact all my telephone dealings with them were that way. However, my experience when it came to travel wasn't quite that way. Unfortunately I was forced to change my flight and the only option ...
...soonest-available flight. What they didn't tell me was that there is nothing at that airport! Public transport for the first flight arrives after the flight leaves which means arriving the night before. No problem (so I thought) - warm waiting room, coffee, somewhere to eat, etc. I arrived from London at 10:50 (another nightmare of public transport but that's another story!) on a cold, windy, wet night. The prefab terminal building was cold and drafty ...

cheap flights made easy

Advantages: cheap, simple
Disadvantages: none

I regularly fly from Coventry Airport to Amsterdam with Thomsonfly and although at first a little apprehensive about just how small Coventry airport really is, I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are friendly and helpful, even in the car park and drop off zone at arrivals and departures, where it can sometimes be a bit of a bottle neck, as the area is so small. The departures lounge is just as comfortable as any large airport and has a selection ...
...some duty free items. Security is very tight, especially on arrival back at Coventry, which is very reassuring in today's climate. The flights themselves are pretty basic, but you get what you pay for. I pay ca. £50 for a return flight to Amsterdam Schiphol. The flight attendants are polite, friendly and some are actually chatty! As mentioned in other reviews, you have to buy any drinks or food that you want on board, but it is resonably priced, ...

Quick review of Thompsonfly

Worst airline and customer service in the world. I booked online for a certain date and was presented with 3 prices. I assumed these were different classes. I booked the cheapest, not knowing that they were in fact on different dates. I immediatly called to change or cancel and was on hold for 45 minutes each of the 3 times I called. I sent 3 emails over the next week, starting within 10 minutes of booking. Finally 4 weeks later (after the flight) I got an email stating their policy is that flights are strictly non refundable. These people are crooks! I was charged $220 for flights I could never use. I would never even consider using them again, under any circumstances. ...

Prison warders or airline staff???

Advantages: Can sometimes be cheap - despite all the stealth supplements
Disadvantages: Expect to be treated like a prisoner

I recently made a return flight ORY-CVT-ORY. Check in at ORY is cold and efficient. Travelling with a friend I asked if we could sit together. "You will sit where the computer puts you unless you pay" was the friendly reply. Otherwise fairly uneventful trip to CVT except for passport control being delayed for 10 minutes by a fire alarm at CVT. The return trip however left me feeling very bitter. Check in was more like enrolling in a penitentiary ...
...arrived at the check in desk a poor French student who spoke little English was being aggressed because he had not understood the baggage weight rules correctly. The poor guy was forced to pay £60 for 10 kg overweight, and to add insult to injury, he was then informed he would be charged an additional £5 for using his credit card to pay! Then it was my turn. I had one small bag containing my camcorder and another weighing 8.6kg and containing breakable ...

Cheap but still too much

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: poor old planes

I have flown with Thompson Fly once a long haul flight from Doncaster to Sanford. Yes the flight was cheap but never again would I fly with them the plane was really old and uncomfortable seats. They price was cheap but it was still not worth it to me. Its a false economy has by the time you have added all the extras they are more expensive they charge you for everything drinks, meal etc. You could fly on a proper airline for the same price or less. ...
...back they were weighing peoples plastic bag if they had pop in them they were being very funny about it has if they only want you to but theres at inflated prices. (This was before the ban on liquids) The staff on board are only interested in selling you park tickets and scrachcards going out. On the way back they will not let you get any sleep through the night as they are trying to sell more duty frees all night. It is possible to put up with ...

Thompson air

Advantages: Friendly, school age children cattered for
Disadvantages: Too small gap for seating

My family and I went on aThompson holiday which used their own planes fly. We were treated very well but the seating was very tight. Our son was eight so did not have a problem but for adults, any more than a few hours and cramp set in. We felt sorry for people with young children because of the room issues. The children were thought of with the tv's on the backs of the seats which played a constant stream of films and cartoons. Apart from that the ...

A good long haul operator

Advantages: fly to many destinations, comfortable clean aircraft, good value
Disadvantages: food...food...food...

I have flown with this airline three times on long haul flights from Gatwick to Sanford International in Florida. The aircraft are comfortable and clean. The flight was value for money at only £230 return. You did have to pay £10 for your food and this I would say is the only thing that wasnt value for money as all you got was basic tasteless airline food. If you didnt pay your £10 you didnt get fed. This had to be done at the time of booking, however ...
...if you needed one. I will be taking my own sandwiches next time. Not that im being a skinflint...its just the food is a complete letdown. The flights are uneventful but being on modern aircraft, you have radio channels or a selection of movies to watch while you travel. Checkin and boarding is a seamless operation..I will travel with them again. ...

Terrible delays at airports

Advantages: Low cost, easy to book online
Disadvantages: Terrible delays! No leg room

We flew Doncaster to Malaga at the end of May and the delays were awful! Flying out we had a 7 hours delay, should have flown at 6:15pm (and arrived a decent time in Malaga for someone to collect us from the airport) but didn't get off the ground until after midnight. Thomson offered no information about what the problem was and all customers were getting very angry. They eventually put us on a coach to Manchester Airport saying we could get a plane ...
...got on the coach we set off only to turn back again after only 10 minuites saying we were going to fly from Doncaster after all! Then had to check cases back in again. They did give us £6 vochure to use in the airport but by that time of night there is very little open at Doncaster because everything had closed for the day except a little sandwich bar - but you can't get a lot for £6 in a airport anyway. Flight back home was a repeat performace - ...
