Thomson Spirit - Med Renaissance - excellent

Advantages: Great food, great ports of call, excellent customer service
Disadvantages: Having to come home again

...- Mediterranean Renaissance on the Thomson Spirit. It was a 50th birthday surprise for my mum. Booked it online through the Thomson website and got a free all inclusive upgrade. We had an outside cabin on deck one and flights from Glasgow - came in at around £1500. We were both quite excited but a little nervous about it. We had been on a mini cruise previously and had heard good things about Thomson cruises. You get your tickets around two weeks ...
...foyer by a member of Thomson staff with a Thomson Cruises clipboard. She directed us to a particular door of the airport where another member of staff gave us some papers with information about travel to the ship. We were then directed to a particular coach. A member of staff came on the coach with us for the short trip to where the ship was berthed. Once we arrived at the ship, a member of the Spirit staff came on the bus and explained that we had ...

Thomson Spirit Cruise - Fortunate Isles

Advantages: Excellent Food, Interesting places to see
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive

...booking to go on the Thomson Spirit Fortunate Isles cruise. We wanted to go on holiday in early April but when we went to the travel agents the only holiday they had on days we could travel was this cruise. We thought about it for a bit and decided to bite the bullet, so here is the story of my first cruise. **The ship** The Thomson Spirit is 214m long and 10 decks tall. It weighs about 35,000 tonnes. In other words, it is massive! It takes about ...

Thomson Destiny Cruise Ship

Advantages: Great Value Fabulous service
Disadvantages: expensive excursions, ship a little aged

We travelled on Thomson Destiny on it's first mediteranian cruise of 2006 on May 4th. We had cruised on this ship previously when it was owned by Airtours and named Sunbird. The Destiny is the biggest in the Thomson fleet. I must say the improvements under the Thomson brand were very much evident. As this was our honeymoon we booked two 1 week cruises, back to back. This cost us about £1,900 with free all inclusive upgrade. We did book an inside ...
...the cruise from passengers that Thomson do not upgrade passengers to outside cabins free of charge. We flew to Majorca from Doncaster Robin Hood on the Thursday departing around 0600 hours. At our arrival airport there was a delay with coaches taking us to our ship. The company were blaming the coach company saying that they had let Thomsons down. There were about 6 flights all arriving at the same time so you can imagine how long the queue was ...

Emerald, a Jewel in the Mediterranean.

Advantages: Excellent value at the price.
Disadvantages: Few trimmings

...on the internet a cutprice Thomson cruise holiday in the Mediterranean. I had no hesitation in booking at once. Later, I got the brochure which confirmed my opinion that the twelve day holiday on the cruise ship Emerald was going to be somewhat downmarket, but at the price I didn’t mind that. It was costing me only £729, all inclusive. If that sounds a lot, ask yourself where you could find an all-inclusive hotel for that price. I had to join the ...
...had at an airport. The Thomson reps were waiting outside, and asked us to queue to wait for a coach to take us to the ship. I hate the hot sun, and it was very hot, even though this was late autumn, so I was not happy that we had to hang around for about half an hour. At embarkation the queues were long, and very slow, understaffing apparently the problem. I was feeling really groggy with lack of sleep and the heat now, and was relieved to get on ...

Mediterranean Renaissance on Thomson Destiny

Advantages: Fantastic facilities, great staff, ports of call
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest holiday you could go for

...this cruise. A week on Thomson Destiny is great. The only thing I would suggest is to go for two weeks instead! The final disembarktion was a bit of a mess, with cases being transported off the boat and some people having lost their passes but everything went smoothly in the end. I would definitely reccommend this cruise to anyone and everyone. ...

Thomson Celebration Cruise

Advantages: pampering from day one
Disadvantages: need to start diet the year before

Just returned home from 14 nights aboard the Celebration. The itineries were Moorish Delights and Mediterranean Renaissance. Had a marvellous time and would recommend to anyone. I think the best thing about this company is the choices that are available to you. We did not take any formal clothing, never intending to participate in the formal nights, although I am sure some did attend in only smart casual wear. There was still lots to do instead and ...
...avoid the formal proceedings. Glad that we chose not to have the drinks package as the total onboard drinks bill for the 2 weeks was about £450 which was less than the drinks package option by £150. There where a number of children on board who generally were well behaved and again there were plenty of places to go to avoid them if you really wanted to. We did not book any of the organised visits, I thought they were expensive and many required long ...

Romance, Romans and the Riviera - Thomson Cruise

Advantages: Excellent Food, Great Entertainment, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Ship is quite old, Not much to see in port without going on excursions

...The outlook on the Thomson Satellite TV channel was not great, after seeing that most passengers were old enough to be my great grandparents. Not that I'm ageist at all, but going to bed with a cup of ovaltine at 8:00pm didn't seem like my idea of a great holiday. Would I be proven wrong? ISLAND BREEZE

Advantages: Sunshine, everything you need to hand.
Disadvantages: None

Have you ever wondered about going on a cruise? Well I hadn’t until my mum invited me to go with her at the last minute. My Mum had booked through Thomsons and was going with a friend, who became very ill, two weeks before they were due to go. I knew that I couldn’t really afford it, but thought what the hell, I couldn’t let this holiday of a life, time pass me by. We flew to Palma and boarded our ship, which was called the Island ...

Our cabin was laid out very well indeed and the room service was excellent, we were given our own personal maid. Everyone was allocated seats, which you had to use for every mealtime. So it was nice ...

Island Breeze - Trans-atlantic

Advantages: Great way to see alot of places in a s hort time
Disadvantages: Sea-sickness

When it was First suggested to me by my mum that we went on a cruise I wasn't keen at all. I imagined it to be full of posh people and dressing up over the top day and night for two weeks. How wrong was I?... We spent the first day at sea travelling from Majorcia to Morrocco. My mum was feeling very sea sick, so one of the reps suggested that she should eat some dry bread rolls. She wasn't sure but tried it anyway and it worked. There is a disco on the ship, I'd recomend going in there if you ...

Thomson 'Destiny' (formerly 'Sunbird')

Advantages: Excellent company (crew and passengers); (food 24/7!); new experience
Disadvantages: Limited time in each port; pre-booked excursions LUDICROUSLY expensive!

As a 50+ yo male, being invited on a cruise as a companion to one's elderly mother is not the MOST attractive offer I have ever had! However, I had not been able to afford any holiday whatsoever for 7 years (that's divorce for you) and she DID offer to pay....... so I said 'Yes!". [This review is therefore written by a cruise 'newby', so for those who read the last chapter of the 'whodunnit' early on....I'd go again. Tomorrow. :)] My initial fears ...

The ship was very large (38,000 tons) and, with 1500 passengers ( aka 'guests' - yuk!), there were plenty of people from all walks of life to meet and talk to. Think 1970's Benedorm and you have a fair idea of some people - think Ascot and you have a fair idea of some others - we were as mixed in class ...

Quick review of Thomson Travel - Mediterranean Cruise

Week two was on the Adriatic Explorer. The staff were excellent(omit Reception). Cleanliness was excellent. Meals were average. Entertainment was good apart from The Showteam who were brilliant. Excursions were expensive. Ports of call. Venice and Dubrovnik were amazing. (Not nearly enough time there) Why we cruised for 18 hours to get to Brindisi which was closed , then 13 hours to Dubrovnik was the main complaint apart from the hazardous and humilating experience of getting on/off by tender. Koper and Zadar were nothing. Even though we received a daily newsletter information for the "independent "passenger was scarce. As a first time cruiser I found the trip to be "quite good", but if I was infirmed or less mobile I would not go on the Emerald. This is not the ship for you! ...

Emerald ship, diamond holiday

Advantages: 6 star service
Disadvantages: 3 star ship

My wife and I have always wanted to go on a cruise, and when i was made redundant, and had managed to secure another job, we used a portion of the money to follow our dream. TThe booking was without hitch (but pay the extra to reserve your cabin - it's worth it) The whole experience was unbelievable. The ship is apparantly only a 3 star vessel, but the staff all over, from our attentive, yet discreet, friendly yet professional cabin steward to ...
...The ship is a little tired, and repairs are a little obvious, where new has replaced old, but this in no way affects the quality of the experience. Entertainment is top quality, from the show lounge to the resident pianist, the food... lets just say you wont lose weight - it was out of this world - some of the best food I have every had, regularly surpassing many top restaurants in the Uk and Ive been to a few...) The itinerary was so nearly perfect ...

Thomson Spirit - Fortunate Isles Cruise

Advantages: Go everywhere, see everthing, in comfort!
Disadvantages: Seasickness

...my partner went on the Thomson Spirit Fortunate Isles cruise and stay around the Canaries area. It was my first cruise and I wasn't sure what to expect - at 23 I am not a stereotypical cruiser! To many people a cruise is a fancy floating hotel but to me it is a way to see half a dozen different islands rather than just one. OK so I had to manoeuvre around a lot of old people on the boat, but it was all rather good! The cabin was three times the ...
...was plentiful and good with lots of choice for even a fussy vegetarian (that's the buffet mind, I wasn't impressed at the restraunt!) and for when you couldn't brave the entertainment there was a cinema and movies in your cabin. The boat was good enough that the week in a hotel on land was a total let down! It wasn't the cheapest holiday - we paid £2200 for a "deluxe" (window) cabin, but thats not too bad for a fortnight full board. The highlight ...

Cruising. It's so civillised!

Advantages: A moving hotel.
Disadvantages: Not enough time in the day to do everything

In 1998, for our silver wedding anniversary, my wife and I booked a cruise with four of our friends. Our son and our friens son came too. We went wiith Thomsons and sailed from Palma (Majorca) in the good ship the Emerald. It was excellent. The food was superb, six meals a day if you could manage them ( we did on the first day at sea but that was the only time). The excursions in the various ports af call were very well organised and interesting. ...

Thomson cruising.

Advantages: Great food, good shows and you wake up in either a different city or even country.
Disadvantages: Small cabins but then you don't spend much time in them.

A fantastic way to get a taste of many different cities and countries. We made many friends and never spent a day or evening alone. The food is great and so much of it and the crew were really friendly and helpful. Lifeboat drill is fun even though it is serious and I loved the feeling of being really special as we cruised into port!!! From leaving England every thing went smoothly and we could board as soon as we arrived at the port. We did encounter ...
...passengers and crew were ill but we were fine and were given so much food that day!! The only real problem was the lack of sun beds on deck when we spent the days at sea and this did mean people were up early with their towels reserving beds. The evenings were informal and my husband wore a tie twice for the captain's dinner but the rest of the time dress was smart casual in the evening. I even won in the casino. A great holiday and we are hooked ...
