    Toronto has some interesting attractions, but few must sees, and in the weeks prior to my visit I alternated between thinking I'd never be able to fill my days there and thinking I'd have far too much to fit in during my stay. It was hard to tell from my mini guide book what the absolute must sees were, but over a day and a half I packed in the following. It may seem like a lot, but I never felt too rushed, and also had time for a bit of shopping and lots of eating, things equally important in any city break itinerary I draw up for myself.     Toronto is an absolutely fabulous city and although it perhaps doesn't have the fame and prestige that the likes of NewYork and Washington have, it is undoubtedly a city you must visit. OK so I might be biased since I lived there, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm wrong! Toronto is located in the Canadian province of Ontario and, contrary to popular belief, it is not the country's capital. That is Ottawa a slightly more understated city to the East of Toronto.     This review is about my time in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, I spent just under two weeks in this province, and so I thought I would share my travel experience with everyone. I have been to Canada once before, however I was very young and thus didn’t really get a feel for the province; I was too young to travel around and to young to do the things I enjoy doing now.     Toronto has got all the ingredients for a fantastic value for money weekend extravaganza! Think Canada and you think it's a world away but it really is'nt. I flew from Glasgow and the flight was under six hours,It can take longer than that to travel from the north to London or from the south to Edinburgh but you would certainly consider those city's for a weekender! Globespan do some fantastic deals for around £380.00 for a six night trip including a couple of nights in Niagra.They do use a basket case charter airline though!     Advantages Advantages Very cheap for us Brits. Very mixed cultures, very friendly and polite.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages COld, slightly sterile environment

    Toronto is a shoppers delight - which is a good thing as it is one of the most sterile places I have ever visited. The touristy things are written about very well elsewhere on Ciao so I will only mention them briefly: CN Tower. It's tall and when the wind blows half of it (the top bit) is shut. The views are very impressive and it is not the most expensive place to go. Skydome Huge, bigger than Wembley or Twickenham, this stadium has a concrete base which is lined with astroturf for either Baseball or American football. Hence the padding!!     Advantages Advantages Diverse Culture, 5 Star Hotels, easy Public Transit, and Fantastic Ammusement Parks for all ages.

    If you are only in Toronto for a short time there are three absolute musts. Firstly visit Casa Loma - it looks like a medieval castle set on the top of a hill. It was built by the first man to harness the power of Niagara Falls but he ran out of money before it was completed and thankfully the Toronto council are now maintaining the property and running excellent tours. For £5 you can wander 'til your hearts content through the beauty of Casa Loma listening to the excellent commentary on the headsets - an afternoon well spent.     I first visited Toronto in 1998 on my honeymoon and fell in love with the city. We stayed at the Bond Place Hotel on Dundas which we found to be clean, friendly and central. It is two minutes walk from the Eaton Centre - a shopper's paradise. There you can browse in Eaton's department store, shop till you drop in chain stores, craft shops and fancy goods stalls. The food hall is excellent for variety and value with foods from all over the world at excellent prices - Brits will be surprised at how cheap it is to eat in Toronto.     Having taken on board the comments made about my previous opinion, I've decided to revise, or revamp what I intially said. For those of you who have never been to Toronto, there is so much scope for things to do. From wandering around the underground city, under the heart of Toronto...This links Union Station nearly at the lakeshore, to all the major bank/insurance buildings, eventually leading to you the Eaton Centre.     Toronto is a nice city, it's very much like London in its mix of people and vibes, although nowhere near as populated. There is a great range of things to do - you should try to catch a Blue Jays baseball game at the Skydome while you're there, or a Toronto Raptors basketball game. There are some world-class restaurants in Toronto, and just like in London you can find any kind of food you want, from Fish and Chips to Sushi. There is ample opportunity for shopping, and there's even a convincing equal to Camden Town where you can buy weird clothes, belts, boots, etc. ... more
