The Wooden Spoon Award 2003 Goes To...

Advantages: Excellent drivers on the whole, new buses, value for money ticketing
Disadvantages: Litter strewn buses, AWFUL Customer Services, poor timetable availabilty

Trent Barton (by their own claim) is one of the few remaining independent bus companies left in the UK and they’ve been around in one guise or another for the best part of a century. With a fleet of over 300 buses and employing roughly 1,000 local people, they are based in Henor, Derbyshire and run routes throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and as far to the north as Manchester. This leads them to the belief that they can offer a better and ...
...like that in practice? ~ Routes/Timetables ~ As a generalisation, Trents’ buses cover the vast majority of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire but they do partake in small forays into north Leicestershire and south Yorkshire; one bus also runs to Manchester via Stockport. The bulk of their routes link estates to each other and smaller communities to each other and to the larger towns/cities but they do partake in a small amount of cross-country provision. ...

Worth a ride?

Advantages: Comfortable and Clean Busses, Comprehensive Routes
Disadvantages: Time keeping often terrible, expensive compared to other operators in the area

Trent Barton are a private company, that run bus routes throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. They mainly service the towns and villages that are set apart from the main town centres. I have used Barton busses for many years and having lived in the north, east, and south of nottingham i have been able to experience the service being run in many different regions. ~The Fleet~ None of the busses that the company use ever get particulalry old ...
...gadgets! Due to the fleet being renewed on a fairly regular basis they are always mechanically reliable, in all my years of using the service I have never had one break down on me (unlike some of the other bus companies I have been so unfortunate to have had to use!) The interiors are always clean and tidy and the colour schemes are generally very pleasing. The seating is both comfortable and practical with pleanty of space at the front of the busses ...

Regional Services for Nottingham and Derby

Advantages: Frequency of some routes is excellent, fairly new bus fleet
Disadvantages: Fares can be expensive

Trent and Barton buses are the main operators of buses in the Nottingham and Derby areas. They also operate long-distance services to Chesterfield, Manchester and Leicester. The company have been upgrading and altering routes, in order to get the best service possible to some places. This has meant the removal of services, or retiming. They seem to have the most modern fleet of buses that I have seen in recent times. The Rainbow Routes are proving ...
...serve main commuter areas, and run services every 6 and 10 minutes respectively. These don't always turn up when they are scheduled to arrive, but are fairly frequent. Night buses on these routes operate on Friday and Saturday nights until about 3-4am. Fares are not the best value in the world to be honest. From my house to Nottingham return is £2.30 (approx. 7-8 route miles). The same distance roughly from Stapleford to Nottingham, covered by the ...

Trent Barton - A Real Mixed Bag

Advantages: Polite Drivers, relatively new buses
Disadvantages: poor punctuality, low customer care, VERY expensive

I live on the outskirts of Nottingham and, as i have no car, busses are often the only way I can get around. The ONLY bus service that operates through my area is Trent Barton (the rainbow 4 service and the 15, 18/32 and commuter express services). It is fair to say that travelling with Trent Barton is like playing the lottery, if you get lucky things are very good....but if you aren't lucky it can be really frustrating. For example, here's a little ...
...Barton. DAY ONE Arrive at the bus stop five minutes before the bus is due. Having waited fifteen minutes two busses arrive at once, I wave the bus down and the ask the driver for my fare, he utters not a word, gives me a ticket and change. The bus is full and I am forced to stand for the entire journey, it is also unbearably hot. The 25minute trip to town actually takes 50MINUTES!! A combination of the delay and the late bus mean I miss my train......very ...
