Tunisia - I Came Home For A Rest!

Advantages: Great Spring weather. Loads to see and not a mozzie in sight
Disadvantages: Local dishes a bit thin on the ground and insipid international cuisine

...be a long one! TUNISIA – WHERE IS IT? Just before we went, an Australian colleague of my wife’s said “Tunisia? – I’ve got NO idea where that is.” So for him and a few others, here’s a brief description. Tunisia is ‘third country from the left’ in North Africa. These three, including Morocco and Algeria too are known as The Maghreb, i.e. the west in Arabic, I believe. Both the city of Tunis and the country itself are called Tunis in Arabic. It ...
...than the price paid in Tunisia – Yes, why does the Italian quota of bottled oil exceed the amount pressed? b) Allowing Libyan trucks access to Tunisian ports, thereby busting any trade sanctions placed on the former. The Libyans even built their own dual carriageway to speed up the process. c) Phosphate mining. The fertiliser is used either at home or by ‘poorer countries’, which can’t afford to worry about what it does to the water table. d) ...

So near yet so far

Advantages: Short flight pleasant country
Disadvantages: none

...with a couple of suggestions, Tunisia or Maderia, but they said the weather in Maderia could be "iffy" at this time of year, so we decided to plump for Tunisia. We were surprised to hear that the flight was only about 2 and a half hours, which, considering we were heading for Africa, sounded pretty good. Everything with the flight etc. went well, but when we arrived in Hammamet in Tunis - yes you guessed - it was raining and windy, we were so diappointed, ...
...even the locals were quite surprised. A couple were leaving as we were arriving and they were well peed of as apparantley it had been like it for the whole of their stay. Despite the weather, we were determined to make the most of our holiday, and a "Noddy" bus was stationed outside our hotel, which went on regular trips to Hammamet town. We boarded the bus with a couple of friends we had made in the hotel, we had not been on it for long when one ...

Tunisia, not a normal holiday destination but good anyway.....

Advantages: Good place to relax, people are very friendly........
Disadvantages: none.......

...had always fancied going to Tunisia for a holiday - but for some reason i have never got around to it. Iv'e been all across the Med, the Canaries and obviously Britain, but Tunisia...well, I just don't know why. Then five years ago i took a Winter break in Hammamet with friends - just 7 days, but we took the opportunity to see a couple of other places too. One was Sousse, a big resort, quite bustling and lively in a traditional sense, but basically ...
...- go elsewhere. Tunisia as a country is laid back and fairly under-developped. The resort of Port el Kantaoui is a restful, classy, clean and modert place unlike the lookalike resorts you find all around the Med. I would highly recommend anywhere in this resort - for Sun, Sand and a bit of 'desert magic'. We also went for a two day ride into the desert on jeep, but also got to stay in a bedouin Tent which was different. They also do a Medieval banquet, ...

The Gateway to Africa

Advantages: Good weather, good prices, Africa though not too far away, possible to pack a lot in because good organised trips
Disadvantages: Pushy shopkeepers, sometimes lack of English, easy to be ripped offf

Wow! We only went there for a short break and we seemed to cram ever such a lot in. My favourite place was Sidi Bou Said, a beautiful village near Carthage where a holy man once lived. It is delightful to recline on the mats in the little building and drink mint tea. Carthage itself is little more than ruins, but they have thoughfully reconstructed a pillar to give you a glimpse of its former glory. The mosaic museum in Tunis was absolutely incredible: ...
...would be raving about it. We stayed in Port-El-Kantaoui, which was lovely though touristy. The desert trips are very good value and riding in the Sahara on a camel is an unforgettable experience. Seeing the sun come up over the salt lake and the amphitheatre and El Djem was also amazing. The only disappointing thing was the pushy shopkeepers, the wild animals caught for show, and the troglodyte village of Matmata, where apparently Star Wars was filmed. ...

Tunisia Hammamet, Narahwess Hotel

Advantages: Clean sandy beaches, friendly and hot!!!
Disadvantages: Restrictive, poor country, hassled by sellers

A cheap deal persuaded my decision for a fAMILY HOLIDAY. For £395, we got four star HB accomodation for a week. The hotel was amazing and the food delicious, a private beach, 4 pools, beautiful layout..it was lovley. After venturing out of the hotel, I was constantly hassled by men and began thinking this was not eaxatly a very relaxing and free to go where you want holiday. It was not at all a tourist atmosphere, however in some respects a refreshing ...
...that meant also a taste of the restrictive lifestyle for women over there...very different from the westernised world. Overall a great place to unwind and enjoy luxury in and around the hotel, the most beautiful hotel that I came across out there. However if you want a holiday of adventure and your a women this holiday is not really for you. Poverty pressures the people to sell you anything and they do an they can be very physically forceful with ...
