Advantages Advantages An exciting, if rather tacky experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages The potential financial ruin you're risking

Allow me to sketch a rather selective portrait of myself: a colour-by-numbers where the artist has only got the red paint to hand. I am a gent in my thirties. Some might say 'his late thirties'. I am a middle-bordering-on-senior manager who wears a shirt, tie and (sometimes) cufflinks to work. I rather like museums and I quite enjoy art galleries. And despite my wittering on 80s/90s indie rock on here, I believe that Beethoven's Op 133 Great Fugue is the greatest piece of music I've ever heard. Let's compare that to Thorpe Park, a theme park with an image as a chav-staffed and chav-patronised ... more

Advantages Advantages Wide range of rides

Disadvantages Disadvantages the map! The queues! Easy to get there but only by car - and then you pay extra for carparking

Location Thorpe Park is located in Chertsey, Surrey near Staines. It is the second most popular park in the UK, Alton Tower is the most visited. You can reach there either by car or train but the best way to get there really depends on where you are heading out from. The park is located west of M25, where you can turn of junction 11 and follow the brown signs: postcode KT16 8PN. Car parking is £2.00. If by train, get the South West trains from Waterloo to Staines and bus 950 (every half hour) to the park. The buses are a bit of an annoyance though as you need to keep checking the timetable and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great rollercoasters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Poorly managed

Introduction ---------------- I love theme parks and have been to quite a few, not just in the UK but around the world! I'd heard good things about Thorpe Park so decided to visit it last year. Thorpe Park is now owned by the Tussauds Group. The Tussauds group also own Alton Towers, Madame Tussauds, Chessington World of Adventures and Warwick Castle amongst others. If you visit one you are usually given vouchers to get money off entry to all / some of the others. Where is it and how do I get there? ---------------------------------------------- Thorpe Park is in Surrey, about 20 miles from ... more

Advantages Advantages Some great rollercoasters and rides

Disadvantages Disadvantages rides breaking down and overpriced

When I was younger (god even writing that makes me feel old!) I loved roller coasters, the bigger and faster the better, while everyone else went green I was laughing and screaming! Then I grew up and had to be more sensible especially after having my boys, over the years we have been to all the usual places with them but for some reason we never visited Thorpe Park. Until my other half announced that his firm had decided to hold a family day for the entire workforce at this place. So never being one to look a gift horse in the mouth the boys and I jumped at the chance! HERE COMES THE HISTORY ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Rides, Everything Close Together, Family Day Out

Disadvantages Disadvantages Long Queues, No Shade, Expensive

I have been to Thorpe Park on a number of occasions over the last few years. The university I went to was about a 15 minute drive away from the park, so it was one of the places we went to at least once a year. I’ve always had a good overall time there, though when I visited last weekend there were a few downsides to the park that somewhat let down our visit. Although some of these factors are things that are not necessarily in the park management’s control, I personally felt that there should be more measures in place to combat this type of thing. Anyway, let me explain. Last weekend, me and ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent rides, something for everyone

Disadvantages Disadvantages Queue times can be a nightmare at the peak of summer

I have been to Thorpe Park at least twice a year for the last two years and it still remains one of my favourite theme parks. It is also only a 90 minute drive from where I live making it easily accessible. Location Thorpe Park is situated in Churtsey in Surrey. It is easily accessible and is well sign posted from both directions on the motorway. Admission Costs You can purchase your entrance ticket either online in advance or on the gate on the day of your visit. You can save money if booking online but what we prefer to do is to use a buy one, get one free voucher which can nearly always be ... more

Advantages Advantages lots of rides for all ages, lots of places to eat and drink

Disadvantages Disadvantages some rides have long queues, not all rides working

Living in Surrey I have visited Thorpe park and Chessington World of Adventures many times. When I was a kid Thorpe park was always quite tame and had only a few roller coasters and scary rides suitable for older people, Chessington World of Adventures was the adults theme park and had rides such as Ramasees Revenge which would spin you three hundred and sixty degrees before dropping you sixty feet into a large jet of water. Recently however there has been a switch in many of the rides and it seems that Thorpe Park is now the larger of the two parks and houses more of the 'scary' rides. I'm ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to find, plenty of parking, plenty of rides and attractions

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, queues

For the first time in a few years, today I went on a trip to Thorpe Park. My Nan gave me and my cousins some free tickets that she had managed to get out of the newspaper, so we all went together, along with my partner. Thorpe Park is a theme park set in the town of Chertsey, in Surrey. It is actually only about half an hour drive from me, yet I have not been for about 5 years until today. The park is known as the Nation's Thrill Capital, and has a large selection of rides, amusements and food places within the park. Firstly, to get to the park is quite easy. If you drive, the most known ways ... more

    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Some good rides, BOGOF offer

Disadvantages Disadvantages High prices, long queues, claustrophic park

Earlier this year we were invited to our nephew's wedding in Dorset and since we live in North Wales we decided to make the journey worthwhile by staying 'down south' for a week. For my Christmas present last year Dave had bought me an 'experience' of feeding tigers by hand at Paradise Park (I have done a review of this if you are interested) so we decided to stay for a few days in Basingstoke and do Paradise Park, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures on consecutive days. How do you get there? Starting from Basingstoke made it very easy to get to Thorpe Park - it was almost on our ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact with great thrill rides

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost of getting in.

Another family day out and the chance to write another review as the ankle biters and myself once again sample everything the Tussauds Group has to offer thanks to the three annual passes we purchased at the start of the year using our, or rather my, Tesco club card vouchers. Owned by the Tussauds group Thorpe Park is less well known than Alton Towers however in my opinion is a better day out for those who enjoy their thrill rides and it had a number of advantages over Alton Towers however it does have a couple of disadvantages as well. Getting There This is one of the disadvantages; whereas ... more
