'Someone left a cake out in the rain...'

Advantages: An exciting, if rather tacky experience
Disadvantages: The potential financial ruin you're risking

Allow me to sketch a rather selective portrait of myself: a colour-by-numbers where the artist has only got the red paint to hand. I am a gent in my thirties. Some might say 'his late thirties'. I am a middle-bordering-on-senior manager who wears a shirt, tie and (sometimes) cufflinks to work. I rather like museums and I quite enjoy art galleries. And despite my wittering on 80s/90s indie rock on here, I believe that Beethoven's Op 133 Great Fugue ...
...Let's compare that to Thorpe Park, a theme park with an image as a chav-staffed and chav-patronised hellhole. In Surrey. So why the hell is the former happily visiting the latter? Am I some sort of daft dilettante just pretending to be a renaissance man? Erm...well, it's another of my personal blind spots. In the same way as I can't help myself when it comes to ropey horror films...I _really_ like rollercoasters. And seeing as it had been a good ...

Colossus Queues

Advantages: Great rollercoasters
Disadvantages: Poorly managed

Introduction ---------------- I love theme parks and have been to quite a few, not just in the UK but around the world! I'd heard good things about Thorpe Park so decided to visit it last year. Thorpe Park is now owned by the Tussauds Group. The Tussauds group also own Alton Towers, Madame Tussauds, Chessington World of Adventures and Warwick Castle amongst others. If you visit one you are usually given vouchers to get money off entry to all / ...
...how do I get there? ---------------------------------------------- Thorpe Park is in Surrey, about 20 miles from central London. The exact address is: Thorpe Park Staines Road Chertsey Surrey KT16 8PN From the M25 take junctions 11 or 13* and follow signs via A320 to Thorpe Park. Car parking is free. There are also bus and train stations nearby. Price ------- Entry to Thorpe Park is pricey but there are ways of getting in cheaper. If you ...

Colossus rides but with tidal prices!

Advantages: Some great rollercoasters and rides
Disadvantages: rides breaking down and overpriced

When I was younger (god even writing that makes me feel old!) I loved roller coasters, the bigger and faster the better, while everyone else went green I was laughing and screaming! Then I grew up and had to be more sensible especially after having my boys, over the years we have been to all the usual places with them but for some reason we never visited Thorpe Park. Until my other half announced that his firm had decided to hold a family day for ...
...to look a gift horse in the mouth the boys and I jumped at the chance! HERE COMES THE HISTORY BIT! Feel free to skip this! The site was originally a quarry and was owned by a company called Ready mix cement in the 1970's, they decided to fill it in and build a leisure park. After quite a few years and arguments with the local residents they decided to fill it with water and make Thorpe park an island. The park finally opened in 1979 and was more ...

Queue Park

Advantages: Good Rides, Everything Close Together, Family Day Out
Disadvantages: Long Queues, No Shade, Expensive

I have been to Thorpe Park on a number of occasions over the last few years. The university I went to was about a 15 minute drive away from the park, so it was one of the places we went to at least once a year. I’ve always had a good overall time there, though when I visited last weekend there were a few downsides to the park that somewhat let down our visit. Although some of these factors are things that are not necessarily in the park management’s ...
...in place to combat this type of thing. Anyway, let me explain. Last weekend, me and three friends of mine decided to head over to Thorpe Park. We had decided a couple of weeks in advance to go, as I had received some 2-for-1 ticket vouchers in the post recently, so we picked a Sunday and crossed our fingers for sun. As we woke in the morning we realised that we were in luck, as it was a bright sunny day and so we drove over to the park. Thorpe Park ...

Great day out for all the family

Advantages: lots of rides for all ages, lots of places to eat and drink
Disadvantages: some rides have long queues, not all rides working

Living in Surrey I have visited Thorpe park and Chessington World of Adventures many times. When I was a kid Thorpe park was always quite tame and had only a few roller coasters and scary rides suitable for older people, Chessington World of Adventures was the adults theme park and had rides such as Ramasees Revenge which would spin you three hundred and sixty degrees before dropping you sixty feet into a large jet of water. Recently however there ...
...it seems that Thorpe Park is now the larger of the two parks and houses more of the 'scary' rides. I'm not sure why this change occurred but I have been to both quite recently and I must say that Thorpe Park is much better. I went to Thorpe Park during the school holidays, probably not the best time to visit a theme park to be honest, due to the large numbers of children that are there and the lengthy queues. Saying this though I did have a great ...

Didn't live up to expectations I'm afraid!

Advantages: Some good rides, BOGOF offer
Disadvantages: High prices, long queues, claustrophic park

Earlier this year we were invited to our nephew's wedding in Dorset and since we live in North Wales we decided to make the journey worthwhile by staying 'down south' for a week. For my Christmas present last year Dave had bought me an 'experience' of feeding tigers by hand at Paradise Park (I have done a review of this if you are interested) so we decided to stay for a few days in Basingstoke and do Paradise Park, Thorpe Park and Chessington World ...
...there? Starting from Basingstoke made it very easy to get to Thorpe Park - it was almost on our doorstep. It is situated between junctions 11 and 13 of the M25 however access via junction 12 of the M25 is not possible. All you have to do is leave at either junction 11 or 13 and just follow the signs to Thorpe Park. There are also detailed instructions on how to get to Thorpe Park using public transport on their website www.thorpepark.co.uk How ...

Rita gets bitch slapped by Stealth

Advantages: Compact with great thrill rides
Disadvantages: Cost of getting in.

Another family day out and the chance to write another review as the ankle biters and myself once again sample everything the Tussauds Group has to offer thanks to the three annual passes we purchased at the start of the year using our, or rather my, Tesco club card vouchers. Owned by the Tussauds group Thorpe Park is less well known than Alton Towers however in my opinion is a better day out for those who enjoy their thrill rides and it had a number ...
...couple of disadvantages as well. Getting There This is one of the disadvantages; whereas Alton Towers is centrally located making it easier for people to get to Thorpe Park is located on the outskirts of London in Chertsey and can be accessed from either junction 11 or 13 of the M25. We got off the M25 at junction 13 and certainly found it reasonably well sign posted if not a little confusing as you do find yourself doubling back on yourself at ...

Thore Park - What An Experience :]

Advantages: Great price for so many thrills.
Disadvantages: Not big enough, although good for it's size.

_Initial_ I was booked to go with some friends to Thorpe Park for the first time last year, having previously gone elsewhere. I heard that it was much smaller than Alton Towers, but as it was so much closer, I thought it was a comprimise I would be willing to take. I checked out the website, and very much liked the look of the larger rollercoasters, as I am a large rollercoaster fan. The gallery and videos got me very excited, and I found myself ...
...not take me that long to get to Thorpe Park, but it might take others longer, so I can't really describe my journey to keep people interested. But I can say that it was extremely easy to find. Sign posting is clear, and if you miss Stealth looming over the top of everything in sight, then you must be blind. _Arrival_ The Park is very well presented, and well set out. It is clear where to go, and the car park marshalls will make sure of that. It ...

Thorpe Park.

Advantages: Mega Fun
Disadvantages: Rides do breakdown a lot.

Thorpe Park is a small UK Theme Park situated in the Chertsey, Staines. It doesn't get many visitors compared to some other parks but without a doubt it is home to some of the UK's best rides. **The Park** Thorpe Park is one of few theme parks in England and has to battle tough competition from places like Alton Towers and Chessington. It is home to some of the most known rides in England such as Nemesis Inferno and Colossus, which is known worldwide ...
...now and started off with rides for little children like the little car things that go round a little track etc.. it was quite a while though before they got their first rollercoaster. Thorpe Park is currently closed for the winter and will reopen on March 15th with whats tipped to be the UK's best rollercoaster. Its been going under construction through out the entire 2005 season and i saw it twice, it is HUGE. Its a 205ft tall launched coaster ...

Park Life!

Advantages: reasonable priced, rides located near to each other, good disabled access
Disadvantages: Long queues, rides sometimes break down

GETTING THERE In 2006 I visited Thorpe Park a grand total of 3 times. I live in Dover, Kent and it took us 90minutes to get there. Thorpe Park is well sign posted from the M25 onwards so finding the park is relatively easy. Thorpe Park is situated between junctions 11 and 13 of the M25 but access from Junction 12 is not possible from the M25. TICKET PRICES We paid £28.50 each for an adult entrance ticket to the park. If you book online you can ...
...the option of getting something called a Fast Track ticket, which basically means that you get to jump the queue on the main rides. You will be allocated with a ticket and they tell you a time to arrive for each ride. You turn up at the given time and use the 'fast track' queue and you literally get on the ride in 5 minutes. For this convenience you get charged slightly more - £35.50 on the day and £30 if you book online. OPENING TIMES The opening ...

Thrill or Chill - You Decide...

Advantages: It was Great!!
Disadvantages: No Grass = No Picnic!

Thorpe Park ***Tickets**** Having a really large family always means more hassle and less chances of going out. I bet you all agree with that. But when I had realised that everyone - well almost everyone, had a day off for Monday 14th August, I instantly thought I had to organise something so at least we could enjoy the summer. I have already been Chessington and Alton Towers, so I thought let's give Thorpe Park a go. But 1st, I knew I had to organise ...
...as there were about 34 of us, we would get a discount as we were a group. So adult tickets were priced around: £23.70, and children's tickets for £16.40 - These prices are shown on the Thorpe Park Website. I found these ticket prices really expensive even though after applying the discount. But obviously - nothing in life is free, so we decided to book 34 tickets. When it came to booking the tickets, I was just browsing the internet when I found ...

Taken For A Ride

Advantages: Fab scary rides
Disadvantages: Lack of variety, needs some TLC

The last time I visited Thorpe Park I was in my mid teens and was accompanied by Lizkempo, her brother plus friend and driven there by very nicely by her long suffering mother. I can remember very little about the whole experience, aside from the log flume, banana boat ride and stalking some poor guy we liked all across the park! Ten years later, having found a 2 for 1 coupon in a newspaper, myself and Lizkempo found ourselves on our way to Thorpe ...
...one of the oldest theme parks in England, having opened its gates to the public in 1979. At the time the park was essentially a collection of exhibitions under the auspices of the late Lord Mountbatten. Gradually attractions such as The Magic Mill, Phantom Fantasia and the Tea Cup ride were put in place. In the late 1980s / early 1990s enhanced investment and competition from Chessington World of Adventures, saw the construction of Logger's Leap ...

The Evolution of a Limestone Quarry

Advantages: Thrill Rides, Availability of Food, Transport connections
Disadvantages: Price, Queuing, Price, Queuing

Thorpe Park was originally the site of a Limestone quarry, which closed in early thhe 1970's. The council had an idea to improve the local community through reclamation. Now Thorpe Park is possibly the second best theme park, with a great selection rides suited to thrill seekers older than 15. Chessington World of Adventure has become the theme park for children and those who aren't very adventurous, while Thorpe Park has developed nicely into a ...
...Travel Thorpe Park is situated near the lovely location of Slough just off junction 11 of the M25, which makes it ideal for travel by car. I have only ever attempted the train, but the links are good from London and there is a bus and taxi service running from the station in Chertsey. Both options are generally quite easy, although the M25 can be a nightmare if you leave during rush hour, made worse if everybody in your car falls asleep which always ...

Thorpe Park for a laugh!

Advantages: Fun for adults, fun for children, good day out
Disadvantages: Overpriced, queing times

I have been visiting Thorpe Park since I was a child. The last time I visited was last year so that's primarily what I'll be basing this review on. The park is situated in Stains, Surrey and is open from February to November each year. I go by car, it is all very well signed up and easy to find. You can also get there easily by train, where you can then get a shuttle bus to and from the station and the park. Coach trips also run regularly from London ...
...depending on when you visit and closes between 5.00 - 10.00pm depending again on when you visit. The last time I visited we got there at about 10.30am and had no problems parking, although queing for tickets wasn't much fun. Tickets cost us a ghastly £35.00 each (although I found out afterwards that you can get adult tickets for £26.00 each if you book online). We got given a map with our tickets which meant it was really easy to find our way around ...

A thrilling day out

Advantages: Plenty of scary adult rides!
Disadvantages: Queuing....BOOORING!

Thorpe Park used to be heavily aimed at younger children, with a scattering of scary-ish rides for adults, but now that all seems to have changed! Myself and 4 friends visited the park a couple of weeks ago and had a really brilliant day. I must admit, the only reason we really went is becase we had buy-one-get-one-free tickets - the cost of an adult ticket normally is £28.50 which, even though the park is really good, is pretty pricey, especially ...
...it cost around £18 each which was far more reasonable! You can also buy Fasttrack tickets for individual or all rides which cost a few quid more. The day we chose to go (a Saturday in early September after the schools had gone back) the weather was beautiful - good for the tan, but not so good for the queues! It took us nearly half an hour to queue at the ticket booth, before we even got into the park! We did feel that we spent most of the day queuing, ...
