Translink, the owner of both Ulsterbus and Northern Ireland railways is running ads at the minute to leave the car at home and get the bus, fair enough if they could provide us with a service that would persuade me to leave my car at home. i am a student and live on one of the more rural routes. in the mornings i must get a bus into belfast. this journey can take an hour or more. the bus that operates on this route in the morning is a 66 seater with a double seat coloumn down the bus on the left hand side, and a triple column on the right hand side. this bus is fitted with seatbelts. now, simply getting on the bus is a challenge, there is barely enough space to traverse the gangway, and each seat appears to be designed for a person 3 feet tall instead of the average male of 5'9". the drivers are all and i stress all ... more

I often use Ulsterbus to commute into Belfast to study. This is a handy service for myself as there is a great Translink Student discount card. It costs £7 iniatally and you can use on Ulsterbus or on Northern Ireland railways. It entitles you to between 10 and 15% discount on your journey costs. Another plus point is that of the express services. The buses are clean and comfortable and these do run on time, Not good when you are running down the street trying to catch it however!!! I have been travelling to university since the start of this university year in September. The service gets me from A to B, but some times there is the odd delay or one bus is late leaving me late on the next, so late for class, though traffic is so unpredictable that you cant really be annoyed about the service. The bus drivers are all friendly and are good at their jobs in my area, they seem to have it down to an art of getting people onto the bus as quickly as possible. In Northern Ireland,If you don't have your own transport then you must turn to the public transport provided by Translink transport company. Translink owns Ulsterbus, Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) and Citybus. So, as a person who uses public transport regularly....using all of these avenues I have a lot of experience to be able to make a comment! Because of this monopoly of the transport service Translink can be as late, as rude and deliver the worst service possible and we cannot do anything.
