...several bad reviews of the Victoria Hotel, Amsterdam, I thought I'd better add my 2 pence worth.
I recently spent two nights here after finding a bargain last minute deal on the internet.
PROS
We booked a triple room, which was two twin beds and a third camp bed (added to the room after we arrived). The beds were comfy, and the room and ensuite were both spotless.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and polite - one even recommended a restaurant ... ...guests to use, although we didn't.
Despite being directly opposite the station, the rooms were lovely and quiet at night.
Room service is excellent, and the food is delicious!!
CONS
The walls were a bit thin - you could hear voices and televisions late at night but this was only a problem on the first night.
The breakfast is horrendously expensive at 20euros, but there are plenty of lovely cheaper places nearby.
You have to pay extra to use ...

Advantages: Good hotel, central location Disadvantages: expensive for food
My wife and I stayed here in July 2006, we had 4 nights here booked seperatley with a KLM flight. And yes were were having a kiddless adult break.
I would NOT recommend anyone really to take their kids to Amsterdam although there were plenty out and around in the town.
The hotels location is great, being very central, just over the road from the central train station. (We got off the plane at Schipol and on to the train within the airport straight ... ...* official standard and it really is. The reception is well laid out, plush and nice staff. The bar is very close to the reception adjoining the restaurant. The bar was really nice. A low bar with small sunken seats. Again the staff were really nice and made you very welcome.
