Advantages Advantages Great transport links, fun night out

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive

I’m not a huge drinker but occasionally I like a nice glass of wine with a meal, especially if I’m eating out at a fancy restaurant. After eating in a nice hotel and being recommended a £9 glass of wine (I didn’t realise until the bill) I decided that I wanted to learn more about wine so that this wouldn’t happen again and because a night of wine tasting sounded fun! Being the flakey person that I am, there is always the chance that I will spend lots of money on something to decide a week later than I’m not interested anymore so for this reason decided that a wine tasting course was probably ... more

Vinopolis is an up-and-coming attraction in London’s Bankside and is dedicated to the world of wine. Nestled away on the South Bank, overlooking the river and a 5 minute walk from London Bridge tube station (10 minutes from London Bridge National Rail), Vinopolis is an ideal place to visit if you are planning a day trip to London and want to visit an unusual, adult focused attraction. I have visited three times in the past six months (not through choice, it has just worked out that way!) – once with my partner as a birthday outing, once with a group of friends as part of a hen weekend, and ... more

Advantages Advantages Well planned out. Good value. informative staff.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Oz hasn't called since... also if decide to swallow rather than spit you may not be able to drive home! But you are near a train station anyway.

Fancy a drink? Then come with Oz and me through the vineyards and cellars and we'll have a little tipple. So the venue… Oz chose a fab place for our little rendez-vouz. It is very close to London Bridge station and is actually situated beneath some railway arches. The arches create the shape of the rooms and if you look up you can even see the curving brickwork. I think it sort of creates a feeling a bit like being in a wine cellar but then I am just an old romantic! Vinopolis claims to be "London's Wine Tasting Visitor Attraction" sounds sophisticated hey... Oz must sure know how to treat a ... more

London has a bright new attraction devoted solely to the pleasures of Wine, The Vinopolis: City of Wine, the first tourist attraction of its type in the world, opened in the summer of 1999 on the South Bank of the Thames close to the Shakespearian Globe Theatre, and is a US$35 million extravaganza that both wine connoisseurs and novices will enjoy. The City of Wine has been most imaginatively created under 2.25 acres of simply magnificent and cavernous Victorian railway arches on a site reeking with history and in an area that’s fast becoming a great cultural precinct. It is a very ... more

Advantages Advantages great value, atmosphere, great introduction to the world of wine

Disadvantages Disadvantages none can think, not really for children

Opening Times 2007 (excl. December) Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 12 till 9pm Wednesday, and Sunday: 12 till 6pm Tuesday: Closed Tube Stations : Borough and London Bridge What can I say? One of the most fantastic days out I have had in a long time. A small group of us had heard about Vinopolis and their wine tasting experience. We had been looking forward to it for a while, but nothing could have prepared us for the amazing time we had. We booked for the Vinopolis explorer. This was for the tour of the venue, all self guided so you can do it at your own pace. It includes 5 regular ... more

My wife and I visited Vinopolis in London today and can thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone interested in spending a relaxing day learning more about wine. Vinopolis is situated overlooking the Thames near Bankside. The entrance fee was £11.50 each and this included five vouchers for wine tasting on the way round. You are given your own audio guide and advised that the tour would take somewhere between three and five hours. We were lucky to catch a ten minute seminar on how to taste wine when we entered Vinopolis, and then we moved from country to country assimilating some ... more

Advantages Advantages A fair introduction that leaves you a bit tipsy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not much to it, not very informative, needs an overhaul.

I was very keen to visit Vinopolis and had heard good things about it but was, to be honest, a bit disappointed, not to mention lighter in the wallet after paying £22.50 to get in. The experience is called a 'self-guided tour'. Arguably it's self-guided because there isn't that much to look at. (You pay extra for a hand held audio-guide) .The tour starts with a 5 minute talk on how to taste wine, but it's basic and only likely to be useful if you have no experience of wine tasting. After this you move through a series of rooms where there are some wine-related exhibits and some information on ... more

1 Star Quick review of Vinopolis, London by pking 05/10/2008
A completely pretentious and boring attraction. You would do better to take the £21 entrance fee, go to Tesco, buy four bottles of good wine and sit in the park with a wine guide. You'd get more of an experience of wine, and better value for money.

I wish I’d checked the reviews first. When you see some sites with an almost equal number of “Excellents” as “Terribles” you know it’s a business that isn’t controlling the quality of its service. And that’s what I found. I hosted my daughter’s wedding at Vinopolis in January 2013 and I have to say the quality of food , the venue and the staff at the event itself were excellent. However on the day we found that the canapes (costing £1000) were not being served with the champagne reception as requested – but instead with the sausage rolls and pizzas in the evening!!! After a few weeks I found ... more
