Advantages: excellent service, good entertainment
Disadvantages: incompetent staff initially (!), fault with the plane

I flew with Virgin Atlantic back in October 2006 from Gatwick to Florida, after flying with them to New York a few months previous, after having such a pleasant experience. We were let down on our departure by finding out there was a technical fault with the plane and to our disappointment out flight was delayed 21 hours to the following day! Not happy!! ...do not enjoy flying. But virgin makes it easy. I have a N64 for whenever i need it and a Television right in front of me, i mean what more could i ask for? The seats are very comfortable and make it especially easy for you to relax and fall asleep when you don't thin it would ever be possible to do so. ...Newark airport, New Jersey with Virgin Airlines. Everything was made easy. I had, of course, notified them in advance of any problems. I was given every assistance to board the plane. I was able to transfer from my own chair to the cabin chair. I was given a seat with the most leg room. On reaching Newark we came through the control to see a driver holding a card bearing our name. Out of around 12 flights I've been on, 4 of them have been with Virgin and they have consistantly been a treat. ...airlines before I travelled on Virgin Atlantic and none of them even come close to comparing with them. I have been with Virgin Atlantic twice to go to America and they have been the best flights I have ever had. In each seat on the plane is a free welcome gift consisting of headphones, notepads, pens and numerous other items to keep you ocupied. ...trip to Shanghai booked with Virgin Atlantic, for 9th October. In the first instance my limousine failed to arrive to collect me from home and I had to make my own way to the airport by car. Fortunately the traffic on the M25 was light, I was able to use a valet parking service and I arrived at Heathrow Terminal 3 two hours before the flight was due to depart. Disadvantages:

Virgin Atlantic flew us to Barbados and back, and the flight was pretty good, apart from the plane being struck by lightning on the way home. They sorted out a block of seats for our group of 16, and the hostesses were friendly, and even gave us a carry out! The leg room was marginally better than BA although being stuck behind someone with a broken seat for 9 hours on the way back after an exhausting tour wasn't ideal. ...the minute I booked with Virgin we were treat like royality. After booking we received a detailed form to fill in about our disabilities ( myself and my nephew) what requirements we needed and even if we wanted them to arrange for hire of any equipment needed in the villa we had booked. Virgins service to the disabled is second to none and even though they are slightly dearer than other airlines, its worth thinking about any future travel with them ... Read review

...have had two experience of Virgin Atlantic all in the space of two months and they both ended in bad experiences. The first was when we flew over to New York in Economy class. On board on the way over everything was absolutely fine with plenty to do. The seats are spacious and a hint is to get the back seats on a 747 because on the sides they go from being a 3 configuration down to a 2 so there is a little space to spread out your legs. Virgin Atlantic is a HORRIBLE airline with no courtesy for its passengers. I was scheduled on a 6:30 p.m. flight from Dulles to Heathrow on October 16, 2007. When I arrived at Dulles from my connecting flight at 3:45 p.m., the plane was already at the gate. Disadvantages: Poor customer care with the frequent flyer program.

...are different beasts. I've used Virgin for both, so I have experienced Economy, Premium Economy and Upper Class. Apart from the obvious differences with leg room and food I havne't found much of a difference, the stewards are just as attentive and the in-flight entertainment manages to waste the time quite nicely.
