    I think its necessary to preface this review. I’ve looked closely at excellent reviews of Virgin Holidays by fellow Ciao members going back to 2000. It is fair to say that some of what follows revisits/mirrors areas, experiences, and issues previously highlighted by others in some cases as long ago as 2000.     Advantages Advantages Get to see loads in a fairly short time

    My wife and decided to go to the US on holiday and as we like the freedom of having a car a Fly-Drive was the obvious choice. However, we had no real idea how to arrange a Fly-Drive so we went to Thomas Cook and asked! They showed us a number of different options and from those we chose Virgin's Western Renegade as it covered most places we have always wanted to see. Booking was easy, however we were quoted the 2003 price not the 2004 one - Virgin honored the price quoted without hesitation.     Sun, sea, and anything else you might want from a good holiday will be found on a gulet cruise. We first went on a gulet holiday in 1998 and became, like most other gulet guests, instantly hooked and have since returned twice. We went with Virgin Sun in October 1999 which was their first year offering gulet cruises. Gulets are traditional wooden boats with accommodation for up to 16 people. they sail around the exquisite coast of Turkey stopping in idyllic bays and occasionally in larger ports.     I usually take 1 foreign holiday per year, lasting about 2 weeks and always as a package holiday. I have tried the usual (Thomson, Airtours, Skytours, First Choice) and last year (May 2000) I tried something different. My wife and I, along with my 2 young daughters (aged 6 years and 6 months respectively at the time) opted to travel to Santa Ponsa in Mallorca (see seperate opinion).     Want a holiday where you can ski, sunbathe and get your fill of theme parks all in one holiday, then why not try Virgin’s Ski and Sun package based in California. We went last Easter (when Easter was very late) and had a two week holiday, the first week in Los Angeles and the second week based at Mammoth Mountain. We flew from Heathrow and arrived in L.A. late afternoon on the same day. We then picked up a rental car (included in the package) and drove to our hotel base in L.A. about 45 mins from the airport.     We were going to America to get married. It should have been the holiday of a lifetime. It wasn't!!! For example, we ended up with fourteen amended invoices, no insurance (which we had paid for), incorrect accommodation and a week in one of Virgin's hotels where the ceiling fell into the bedroom. Let me explain… Like thousands of other people nowadays, we had decided that we wanted our wedding to be that little bit different so we chose to go to Florida in order that we could enjoy the hot, sunny climate and get some nice wedding photos on the beach.     Disadvantages Disadvantages cramped on flight but better than other airlines

    We booked through Virgin on advice from friends who had already flown countless times and were very happy with the delivery of tickets and information. So a breakdown of the holiday: We were able to check in our luggage the night before departure as we live close to Gatwick. If you are staying in a hotel overnight you can take advantage of the service too… this saved us loads of hassle in the morning and meant we were in the lower seat numbers – a bonus as it meant we didn’t have to sit on the plane and wait for other people to be seated and booked in.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Use only Virgin Atlantic which is a major disadvantage if flying from Manchester

    Being a member of Virgin Holiday Club you may think I am a bit biased when writing this report but this is not the case, I can assure you, ( see my report on Virgin Atlantic Airways) ~~o0o~~ In writing this opinion my remarks DO NOT INCLUDE Virgin Atlantic Airways which are a different part of the Virgin Empire, I am merely talking about Virgin Holidays only..     My wife and I wanted to get married abroad as we didn't want the hassle. We decided to go with Virgin because we had heard good things about them. They certainly didn't disappoint. They bettered our expectations by some way. Everything they did for us made us feel special. We had arranged to fly to San Francisco, stay for a week, drive to Las Vegas where we'd stay for 5 nights and then fly to Hawaii for 10 nights where we would get married 2 days before we flew back.     My son and I are seasoned travellors and this summer took our first holiday with Virgin to Florida. The administration and hotel in Sarasota were fine but the flights with Virgin Atlantic were not. Why oh why was it necessary to be at Manchester Airport 3 hours before the flight left(ditto at Orlando)? Surely in these days of telephones and emails it must be possible to reduce this figure to an hour at most. The outgoing flight was 4.5 hours late leaving and the return flight 1.5 hours. The result was 7.5 hours plus "lets get there a bit early just in case" spent at Manchester. The &5 ... more
