Power and Glory

Advantages: So much to see
Disadvantages: So much to pay

...have read "brutal" not "romantic". Warwick Castle fits the bill though. Very nicely, too. From its earliest earthwork birth in 914 as a hilltop fort defending the small Anglo-Saxon settlement of Warwick from Danish invaders, it has been part of the fabric of English history. Actually, it's been involved to such an extent that there really is little point in going into too much historical detail other than that necessary to reinforce the point that ...
...its sale in 1978. Various Warwick dynasties have been crucial to the politics of England and the Castle has seen much action. It housed prisoners from the Hundred Years War and was besieged by royalists during the civil war. Richard Neville, the "Kingmaker" during the Wars of the Roses was perhaps the most influential earl and he even maintains a presence of a kind today. The castle is one of the very few completely intact mediaeval examples left ...

Wonderful Warwick Castle

Advantages: Wonderful day out
Disadvantages: Steep prices, some accessibility issues

...** The origins of Warwick Castle date as far back as the year 914, when the daughter of Alexander the Great ordered the building of an earthen rampart to protect the hilltop town of Warwick from the invading Danish. It has been visited by the like of Queen Elizabeth I, King William III and Queen Victoria to name but a few. ** WHERE ** Warwick Castle is located in (funnily enough) Warwickshire, in the picturesque town of Warwick. My other half ...
...absolutely loads to do at Warwick Castle. You certainly need a whole day if you want to have a look at everything. You enter and exit at the Stables where you can turn right to find the Peacock Garden and the Conservatory, or left to go "straight to the castle" (he he he). As you approach the Gatehouse and Barbican on the right you can go straight on down some steep stairs to the Mill & Engine House, which is fully functional and has some lovely ...

A RIGHT ROYAL RIP OFF

Advantages: Nice scenery on a sunny day, plenty of picnic areas & easy to get to
Disadvantages: Too expensive, you have to pay cash for everything & the entertainment is poor

We live quite near to Warwick Castle and for years have been picking up these 2 for 1 voucher but have never put them to good use. This year my boyfriend and me have been venturing out on a few day trips and decided last Saturday, as the weather was to be good we would go to Warwick Castle. HOW TO GET THERE We live in Leicestershire so we used the M1 and M69 I think the most direct route is if you use the M40 and depart at junction 15 which brings ...
...castle once you get into Warwick is easy but if you do use a sat nav the postcode to use is CV34 4QU. If you are coming from further a field the nearest airport is Birmingham and if you just don’t fancy driving the nearest train station is Warwick, which in all honesty I would have preferred to have done, then we perhaps could have spent some time in the pretty town centre. PARKING UP We took a look on the website the night before we went to Warwick ...

A Steep Step For Man A Giant Leap For History

Advantages: history, voted most popular castle in the UK
Disadvantages: cold in the winter, steep steps, expensive

_"The origins of Warwick Castle can be traced back to the Saxon fortification which Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great, used to defend against the invading Danes._ _ … a wooden motte and bailey constructed in 1068 at the command of William the Conqueror._ _Throughout the Middle Ages, under successive Earls of Warwick, the castle was gradually rebuilt in stone. Theme park or historical monument?

Advantages: Great day out
Disadvantages: Pricey and verging on the tackey

...Upon Avon I have visited Warwick castle a number of times over the years as it was one of those must see attractions whenever we had guests visiting and therefore I have witnessed how it has evolved over the years. Unfortunately in my opinion this evolution has not been a positive thing as it has gone from a great historical monument to a place that has more than just the hint of the theme park to it. When you realise that it is part of the Taussauds ...
...located in the centre of Warwick and I well signposted from the A46 and M40 junction 15. If traveling by train the castle is about a 15 minute walk from the station. There are a number of car parks located around the castle and in the town. The main car park for castle visitors costs £3 a day which is pretty reasonable as you will also be able to explore the town at the same time and is a lot cheaper than parking in the pay and display car parks. ...

What a loverly set of battlements

Advantages: A whole days entertainment for the family
Disadvantages: Expensive

Warwick Castle is part of the Toussaud's group and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in England. The castle itself lies next to the River Avon and is a magnificent medieval construction which dominates the town, visible for miles around. I have been meaning to visit the Castle for some time now and finally managed to a couple of weeks ago - did it live up to my high expectations ? ¬How to get there¬ Warwick Castle is well signposted ...
...Midlands, it is easily accessible. Warwick Castle is situated right in the heart of Warwick town centre dominating the whole town. Warwick is 2 miles from junction 15 of the M40. Birmingham is 26 miles to the east and Stratford is 8 miles west further along the River Avon. Warwick railway station is 1 mile from the Castle and is on the London Marylbone/Birmingham line. King Of The Castles

Advantages: Beautiful grounds, lots to see outside, a very popular 'must go to' tourist attraction
Disadvantages: Can get extremely busy, expensive tickets (dungeon is additional)

Warwick Castle was on my list of touristy things to do when I stayed overnight in a hotel in Stratford this year. Located in Warwick, the castle is probably Warwickshire's biggest, most popular, and most expensive, attraction. At around £20 per adult ticket it's not cheap, but as a one-off visit it's definitely somewhere noteworthy to say you've been and depending on the weather the day you go, could prove to be a day-long visit. There are several ...
...thought was so good about Warwick Castle was the fact that it was so well organised in the sense that everything up to date, there was plenty to do and they cater to a wide range of ages. When walking around, you're spoilt for choice for food, snacks, drinks & ice-creams. There's plenty of stands and seating so it does feel like you could spend a good few hours there and just relax and enjoy the day. There is some beautiful scenery to look around, ...

Warwick Castle & new 'Ghosts Alive' attraction

Advantages: Something for all the family
Disadvantages: a little expensive

...the new scary attraction at Warwick Castle. Being a lover of creepy things I suggested to the family that we give it a go. The advertising had obviously worked as we queued for 45 mins to get into the car park and a further 20 mins to buy tickets. The place was absolutely heaving. Not a very good start to what eventually turned out to be a fantastic day. Bearing in mind it was a bank holiday and the cars parks were full, once inside the crowds seemed ...
...depicts Richard Neville Earl of Warwick preparing for battle in 1471. Interesting with very realistic models. THE RAMPARTS WALK Fantastic views across Warwickshire are your reward for walking up hundreds of steps. It's worth the effect but not for the unfit. Also worth seeing - Dungeons, Torture Chamber, Armoury, Victorian Rose Garden, The Mound. Peacock Garden and Conservatory. There is also a lovely little mill and engine house in the grounds. ...

...potted history of England, then Warwick castle is the place to experience it. Whereas many of Englands fine castles were destroyed by during the English Civil War, time has been kinder to Warwick and therefore it is able to provide the full on castle experience. ...the medieval walls and battlements that spring to mind when you think of castles. What makes the place work so well is that through out the rooms are a series of scenarios, complete with dressed dummies and sound affects, that transport you to the period in question. Younger visitors will love the medieval vaults and chambers which depict the preparations for war of its most famous of owners, Richard Neville, known to history as the KIngmaker. In ...

Warwick Castle and Stratford upon Avon

Advantages: So many!
Disadvantages: Expensive

...way home we stopped at Warwick castle because my aunt recommended it. The entry price was horrendous (about 14 Pounds per person). So in utter shock I entered the castle and it was breathtaking. We booked a ghost-experience but before that we had time to queue for the chamber of torture. There was a huge queue and the actual inside of it was rather disappointing. While you are waiting you are entertained by men showing either weapons that were used ...
...will find it all at Warwick castle. So it really feels as if you are going back in time. Inside the castle apart from the ghost-experience and the chamber of torture you can walk up to the top off the tower if you are not scared of height. It is possible to get a look at how the people lived there by viewing there rooms, the rich ones with a lot of space and the poor ones with nearly no space at all. Sadly I wouldn't say that the castle is wheelchair ...

...following day we went to Warwick Castle. O.K this is pretty expense but believe me it is well worth it. You enter Warwick Castle through a long drive which is were the car parks are. On reaching the Castle Gatehouse the sheer size of the castle is impressive. It was nice to see the castle in daylight as my previous visit had been at night to go to a medieval banquet. (They are expensive at about £40 per head but well worth the price) There is so ...

Warwick Castle, great day out but at a price

Advantages: Great day out, loads to do
Disadvantages: Price, too many people??

I visited Warwick castle and apart from having my pants pulled down at the payment kiosk (metophorically speaking) it was a great day out. I was with my girlfriend, it cost about £35 plus they charge you for parking which is a bit naughty. Inside food and drink was a little more expensive but not too bad. There was lots to do, though for people with disabilities access is obviouly limited to much of the castle. I felt like I had been to the gym ...
...For those with families there are a number of free events going on throughout the day although they have started charging for some of them such as the ghost walk that at one time apparently was free. I think this is wrong, if a family of four has come to the cstle and spent about £50+ to get there and get in charging for more events seems a bit low. Overall a good day out if not a bit expensive. ...
