Wetherspoons pubs

Advantages: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap!
Disadvantages: Dirty tables

...eaten in a great many Wetherspoons around Britain and I feel that I am justified in reviewing them. As I start writing this I'm unsure how it is going to turn out as I've had varying degrees of service ranging from a couple of instances of truly awful to excellent. However, the good outweighs the bad - but is it enough to get a glowing report?….read on. I'm going to focus on the main Wetherspoons pubs and touch very briefly on the Lloyds Bar brand. ...
...and decided to name it Wetherspoons after one of his lecturers from university who told him he would never amount to anything - how wrong he was. Apparently, the JD was added later and this was taken from a character in the Dukes of Hazzard that Tim Martin was fond of. As the pub was successful more were opened - initially these were centred in and around the north of London, but as they've became more popular they were opened in other areas of ...

Elbows Off The Table-Your Sleeves Will Be Filthy

Advantages: Cheap food and drink
Disadvantages: Manky tables, out of stock of many items

...1 bar, a branch of Wetherspoons in the Printworks. On walking in it has a very modern, casual atmosphere, The music is loud enough to be heard clearly, but not so intrusive that you can't have a decent conversation. As you would expect, it's a mix of different modern music from R 'n' B to Indie to pop. It has a modern 'wine bar' type of atmosphere, which generally attracts all ages and types of people, from your lunch hour workers, to families, to ...
...of the day it's a Wetherspoons pub and still attracts your pound-a-pint-punters despite its posher location. £2! I couldn't believe it! All in all, if you don't mind sticky tables, and haven't got your heart set on one particular meal it's worth a visit because it's cheap and cheerful, and handy for town. I do feel that it's a bit slack that they can't give the tables a wipe as they clear the plates, it boils down to laziness really. The fact they ...

Disadvantages: Not got as far as Cornwall...yet.

...been trading since 1979.There are Wetherspoons outlets in most parts of the country and new outlets are due to open in 2001.Sadly for my husband and me, they are yet to open any premises in Cornwall where we holiday every year…but we live in hope. ...Square Peg”. A number of Wetherspoons pubs are called “The Full Moon” or “The Moon Under Water” and some are simply called “Wetherspoons.”When visiting relatives in Essex recently, I was amused to find “The Barking Dog.”(In Barking, where else?) Every Wetherspoons pub has a designated non-smoking area and I have seen staff impose this rule when some-one has lit up, which I appreciate, as a non-smoker ...

Cheap pub grub

Advantages: cheap food and drink, great variety
Disadvantages: Dodgy food at times

I am reviewing JD Wetherspoon bar and restaurant Who are they J D Wetherspoon plc (LSE: JDW) (commonly referred to as Wetherspoons) is a British pub chain, founded by Tim Martin in 1979.[1] It is based in Watford and is listed on the London Stock Exchange, where it is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The Bar: I am regular customer at my local JD Wetherspoon, there is actually two in my home city and I would go to the both of them, depending ...
...this bar because as I am a student, it's the cheapest in the town. And on many occasions their BLUE WKDs are realllllly tasty. I also like the atmosphere of the bar, it's very comfortable and it's also nice for a family. Both bars in my town are very spacey, so your not crampt in the corner or anything, and not sitting directly next to another customer. The price is one of the main reasons I go to the bar, and also as they have a great selection ...

wetherspoons - cheap, cheap, cheap

Advantages: cheap drinks, nice tasty food
Disadvantages: no music so no dancing!

Wetherspoons is my favourite pub, it provides a place everyone can go because there is no music (so people can't complain they don't like the type of music!), it has really nice, tasty food that isn't too expensive and most importantly the drinks are REALLY cheap. I am a student and find that this is one of the very few places that I can go and get drinks for not much more than union prices! You don't have to go on a special night (like student ...
...in all I think that Wetherspoons has definetly got the right idea when it comes to pubs, although not a brillant place to dance the night away, its excellent for a few drinks and a chat before moving on elsewhere. P.S beware of differing prices across the country, depending on the sort of area you are in!! ...

Wetherspoon - fit for a king?

Advantages: See text..
Disadvantages: See text.

I would just like to write a review on my local Wetherspoon pub, having spent a lot of time in there as of late! But no, I am NOT an alcoholic before you sad people say anything to the contrary. From entering the pub until you leave, no matter what time of day it is that you visit you are aways sure of a great welcome and a good atmosphere. The staff are there to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, it would do more than break their hearts ...
...being under their care. All of the Wetherspoon pubs are either older pubs that have been in existence for some time and taken over by the company, or are new pubs that have been set up by them. But no matter how they came about, they are all usually based on local landmarks etc. They display information about the local areas, and provide historical talking points on what used to be there. Being in the usual tradition of a pub, they sell an endless ...

...Dempsey. and he wisely chose Wetherspoons for our meal. I believe that it was a brilliant choice. My first point is that the entire chain of restaurants is non - smoking, obviously not brilliant if you are a smoker, but as for me, it is nice to have a 'pubby' atmosphere without the smoke. Wetherspoons market themselves as 'The worlds first non - smoking pub', however because of that non - smoking factor, they have developed a general public view ...
...ciao meet review, but a Wetherspoons review, so I shall rapidly move on; although I am sure that I won't be able to resist a few more meet references... My next point is the food itself. When we all went, everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, I had a five bean chilli which was nice, not particularly hot (although I am sure that my Dad would find it hot; one chilli flake and he's off...), but although it WAS surprisingly flavoursome, and I got a ...

Wetherspoons Curry Club

Advantages: Good value, wide range of food
Disadvantages: Carbohydrate heavy

...gnosh down at your local Wetherspoons is a Thursday. You may ask why ? That because Thursday is their Curry Club day and thus you can cheaply satisfy a lust for the spicy stuff. I discovered this feature quite some time ago and thanks to this I’m frequently relieved of cooking duties on a Thursday ! For a cost of £5-7 depending on where your local ‘Spoons is you can choose from a selection of 15 curries ranging from the mild (Chicken Korma, Chicken ...
...Phaal, Thai Green Chicken Curry) and unusual (Goan Prawn, Malaysian Beef Rendang). Curry Club is also quite veggie friendly with 3 options here. I think the tangy and low fat Mushroom Dopiaza is the best of these. The curry comes with a small pile of yellow easy cook rice, 2 poppadoms, a small pot of mango chutney and a naan bread with which to scoop up all those delicious curry juices. Lots of carbohydrates here so if you’re on the Atkins you’re ...

The Fleur-de-Lis, Banbury (Wetherspoons)

Advantages: can sit 9 people on one table
Disadvantages: With Fleur de lis Banbury definately the service

...The Fleur-de-Lis which is a Wetherspoons which we settled for. The seating was fine and they had a good chair for my 20 month old Grand daughter. The Menu There are some good food deals with 2 main meals for £6.69 and meals that includes the drink. Main meals Fish and chips ££5.19 sausage and mash in a rich onion gravy £6.99 chilli con carne £5.69 Five bean chilli £5.69 chicken tikka masala £6.19 8oz gammon steak £5.79 Braised shoulder ...
...We have been in other Wetherspoons and it has been perfect so I do feel that Banburys The Fleur-de-lis should get their act together and treat their customers a lot better than they do. Outcome is I would not go back there gain but it hasnt put me off other wetherspoons. Thank you for reading x ...

Great place to go of a night

Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: A little music perhaps (maybe)

...The Square Peg is a Wetherspoons pub, and this guarantees you quality from the start. The pubs is quite big, with plenty of seating and plush furnishing and decoration. You really feel like you’re in a place that is well looked after, and it has a certain touch of class to it. It’s a homely atmosphere that exudes from every surface, and it’s all too easy to settle down without a second thought. And that, after all, is how a good pub should be. The ...
...As well as alcohol, Wetherspoons pubs also serve a variety of food to your table. The food is of the highest quality - I can recommend the Chicken Balti, a personal favourite of mine! The prices are not too bad, and there are more often than not some form of offers for you to take advantage of - like the infamous Beer and Burger deal, which is just what it says. So lets look at what we’ve got - a nice classy pub, good beer, good food, good prices, ...

GO!

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: No music

In my opinion, Wetherspoons offers the best pubs in the country. They have a number of pubs in Brum, and there is even one with the largest bar in the country (a must see). They offer great meals with their famous two for a fiver deal absolutely wonderful. Their mixed grills are also very good. Drinks are cheaper than anywhere else in the country too, with deals on vodka drinks and very cheap prices for real beers and lagers. For example, I've seen ...

If only more pubs were like Wetherspoons!

Advantages: Great concept
Disadvantages: Not all branches live up to the ethos

...you see." At a Wetherspoons pub, all of the above are exposed as being self-serving lies. There is no music of any kind, loud or otherwise. And do the no smoking area in Wetherspoons pubs upset anyone? Of course not! And the reason why some chains of similar size as Wetherspoons do not have real ale is because management can't be bothered. They would rather pour cheapo chemibooze down the necks of their punters -and then wonder why they are beset ...
...and great fun. And Wetherspoons is known for better staff training and higher wages than some similar-sized chains. Wetherspoons has, perhaps even more than CAMRA, helped bring about a rebirth of smaller brewers throughout the UK, by holding regular beer festivals, allowing drinkers to taste many different types of beers that they otherwise would never even have heard of, let alone sampled. Wetherspoons was, for example, one of the few chains selling ...

Best pub in brum

Advantages: Big, prices reasonable, easy to get to
Disadvantages: There are cheaper bars, but they aren't as pleasant by a long shot.

This is my favourite place to be on a Friday night. It solves all the needs of my friends and myself. 1: No music, so no “Don’t want to go there, don’t like the music” arguments. 2: A bar that’s over eighty feet long, so no problems being served. Cheap (For a city centre) beer, prices didn’t even go up after the last budget. 3: Lot’s of promotions, especially on food. 4: It's right in the city center and so easy to get to. 5: Finally it’s very comfortable. ...
