I have just stayed overnight for a wedding at the Mansion House, Wroxall Abbey Estate - and my experience was totally opposite the review I have just read. Our twin room was really spacious and very well appointed and the bathroom had all you could want with a large, walk-in shower, whirlpool bath (which sadly I didn't have time to try), twin handbasins and a hairdryer plus a plentiful supply of soft, white, fluffy towels. We commented on the fact that with such a comfortable room a longer stay would be even better (and I'd have got to use the whirlpool bath!) I can't comment on room service as we had no need to use it.
We found the staff to be unfailingly polite and helpful and overall our stay was really enjoyable. ...

Advantages: lovely setting, nice gardens Disadvantages: room was terrible, service poor
...buyer beware as we visited Wroxall Abbey recently. It was a wedding function and the room was £145 for the night including breakfast.
We arrived and entered the estate along a tree lined avenue which led to the mansion house. The estate was described as 'Sir Christopher Wrens Country retreat' and the 48 bedrooms as being 'luxuriously appointed with many original features, walk in showers and whirlpool baths'. It was just a pity the room and the service was so poor.
Other guests also commented on their rooms and they were just as disappointed - so it was not a 'one off'.
As we checked out we were asked whether everything had been OK and when we said 'No' the reply was 'Oh' and continued to swipe our credit card.
In all honesty, ...

All of the staff are genuinely attentive and helpful, especially our own personal Elton John in the shape of the piano playing, joke telling, sandwich making night porter who looked after us until 5.30am.
As we took over the whole of the Mansion for our wedding (definately the best option for a very reasonable price) I actually got to see the majority of the Mansions ... ...of them is the same which is great. I should think the owners like auctions as many of the rooms are filled with interesting furniture and are themed which just adds to the overall charm of the place.
The Mansion House used to be a private girls school which has been converted into a hotel but without losing any of the quirkiness of those types of buildings. One of the intiial reasons for us chosing the place was because both myself and my wife ...
