The Trip:
I went to Malia in September 2006. I needed a budget holiday for 2 weeks, with sunshine and the beach.
Malia gave me just that... so I booked the holiday. It was only when I started looking at reviews AFTER the booking that I began to panic... Malia has a bit of a bad reputation with regards to young English, drinking and clubbing.
Arriving into Malia by coach I was still considering making a resort transfer as it didn't look that great.
... ...away from the main strip where all the bars and clubs were... 2 swimming pools... clean, but very basic rooms... and what appeared to be friendly staff.
The first night in the resort was interesting... walked towards the strip (about a 10-15 minute walk) and quickly returned to the hotel.
Luckily, at night it wasn't that hot, so was able to close the doors and the curtains in the room. I say lucky because every night you could hear what music was ...

Advantages: Clean, modern, large pool, good value! Disadvantages: Location, teeming with young ravers
Stayed here with 2 female friends in early September. We were looking for a good bargain and we found one.
I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of accomodation as I ahve stayed in several 'cheap' hotels in Greece. Our rooms were large and although basic, they were clean. The location of the hotel is rather remote. It was quite a trek into town/the strip. At night it wasn't that well lit so I would recommend you get a taxi.
The staff were ... ...retrieve a camera I had left in a taxi.
The food on offer in the bar is basic but tasty. There isn't much choice but there are tavernas and a shop locally.
There are 2 pools availabe. One is large, with lots of space to sunbathe.
At night the bar plays dvds (some of which aren't out in the UK yet) and we found that if we started our night off there we often got free or very cheap drinks.
Everyone seemed friendly (but some are def a bit chavvy ...
