...I instantly thought about Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn.
The first reference to this building as a Pub dates from 1577. By 1660 this Inn was owned by the Hall family, who also had another Inn (or Alehowse) in the Village. The Hall family were one of the most prominent families in Castleton and there are still many descendants of this family in the Village today.

Advantages: Central to Castleton and olde enough. Disadvantages: Locked in the premises between 12 m/n and 7am. Hard beds.
On booking in Nov/Dec the price of a 2 night stay was £140. On arrival the price had gone up to £160 despite a deposit 6 months before hand. We were told we had been 'mistaken' and the price 'always went up on a B/H weekend'. When I said I thought it was wrong but would pay the extra anyway and would talk to trading standards, we were asked to leave on the basis that by mentioning trading standards, we had threatened the managers so he 'escorted' ...
