Advantages: Lovely town, plenty to do, plenty shops Disadvantages: Let me know if anyone finds one!
...small to remember, and so York is one of my favourite cities, along with Cambridge. It is a historic city, but has plenty of modern attractions.
As a piece of history and site seeing things to do, there are walls, which almost surround the city. Within these is the centre, both historically and commercially. With its roots in the past the Jorvic viking centre is a great place. The castle is near bye, although if you are into castles, go to Windsor! ... ...top of the walls. York Minster is awe inspiring. It is magnificent both inside and outside, and if you are ever lost in York, you can normally see it sticking up through the sky! The Shambles is a very old street, not more than a metre apart, and near the top the houses on either side almost touch! It is left over, and you feel like you have been taken back to Medieval England! It is a great place, and somewhere in it (it is not very big) there is ...

Advantages: quality food and plenty of it, sufficent parking, close to town centre, enconomical - guest house rates but hotel service Disadvantages: few beers on tap, can be too quiet
...the country, presently working in York I have found a very nice
quiet hotel near the city center that doesn't cost a fortune.
The place is called ABBOTS MEWS HOTEL and it is just to the West of York town centre about 8 mins walk.
Advantages.
Approximately £50.00 bed/breakfast/evening meal. A car park that is large enough.
Friendly staff and an excellent evening meal menu with something for everyone. Service in the dining room is prompt and efficient, ... ...really is 8 mins from the town center but is also very quiet, no traffic noise or drunken yobs heading home from
the pub. It appears to be favoured by older guests who revisit every few years and of couse people like myself
seeking quality economical accomodation close to the city centre. Service in the dining room is prompt and efficient.
Disadvantages.
Can be too quiet, small bar - two pumps + plus canned or bottled beers, but good selection ...

...protect the city. Another great feature is the river. Brilliant to walk along or even, if you can afford it, take a cruise in one of the boats that take tourists up and down.
All in all York is a great place to visit and I recommend it to anyone. ...

Advantages: Culture, Shopping, Restaurants Disadvantages: A Long Way Up!
...history, and for my money York Minster beats the London cathedrals hands down. It’s tucked away right in the middle of the city, but once inside it takes your breath away.
There are a wide range of shops, I especially like the many second hand booksellers, good places to eat and the atmosphere is friendly. Us townies can also explore the fantastic surrounding countryside.
I’ll certainly be going again! ...

Advantages: Everything about it. Disadvantages: Getting more expensive.
...the odd cobbled street make York a fascinating place to visit (or live).
There is so much to do, to see, to eat and to drink.
Highlights include the breaded mushrooms at Victor J's cafe-bar on Finkle Street, a pint of Terrier at Colliergate's Last Drop Inn and the sweet and sour fish at Goodramgate's Siam House.
Many new and expensive bars have made York the Notting Hill of the north, but there are enough traditional pubs that you feel like you ...

Advantages: Historic, Good transport Disadvantages: non really
When i visited York on holiday i was astoundied by its beauty and how it had keep that historic look and feel. The highkight if the town was not only its good varitey of shops and transport, but the Old Viking centre in the York town its self. The Viking centre was really enlighting, you dont just walk round looking at old stuff, you made to be interactive with the centre and feel what it was like to ive all them years ago in the time of the Vikings. ...

...them. However, the clubs in york are poor, given the size of the place. We have three clubs, Toffs, Ziggy's and the Gallery. Don't go to Toffs. Not even the 80p drinks are enopugh to get most students to go. You can have more fun watching paint dry. Even if it's a dull colour. The gallery is the biggest of the three, and while some people say it's the best, its probably because they have not experienced Ziggys. Ziggy's is a three floor converted ... ...the place is almost unbarably humid during warm nights, and sweat does drip from the walls and ceiling. Advantages: so much to see within walking distance Disadvantages: city centre can get crowded
...of most major UK cities, York has just about everything for the short break visitor.
A wonderful array of accommodation to suit just about everybody with a lot of places right next to the centre.
If you like historic buildings then the Minster is for you. During recent visits scaffolding often shrowds the outside but still cannot take away the spendour of the place.
Afternoon tea and cakes in famous Betty's was great, but look around there are ... ...many other attractions take a trip on any of the city tour buses, a great way to see the city and some of its museums and galleries.
There are large shops, small private retailers and an open air market for the bargain hunters out there, all well worth a look.
As for night life, there are clubs, bars and don't forget those ghostly tours around the famous Shambles. ...

A day at York is an excellent idea there is plenty to see. like the Cathedral, the Dungeons, shops in the shingles and more.
I recently went to York for the races its very busy but well worth it.
It cost only £3 to £3.50 on the course and around £10 into tattersals, some of the best horses come here and the Knavesmire is very picturesque. If you want to hang around York theres lots of places to eat and lots of pubs. York center is only a mile away.

York is a very interesting and historic city. There are many informative and fascinating places to visit. These include the Minster, the National Railway Museum, the Yorvic VViking Centre amd the Castle Museum. Then there are the many less well known places, such as the Richard the III Museum. It is well worth a visit and Fairfax House, these two gems are well worth a look.

Advantages: Small and easy to leave Disadvantages: Bad attractions, flood risk, weather
Is York a throughly great city? No. There are many reasons for this, and therefore, i cannot understand why people love it. The Minster is constantly covered by scaffolding and is cold. The Jorvik Museum is characterised by massive queues, high entry fees, and bad ventilation. The Castle Museum is good exercise. Clifford's Tower is better from the outside. The weather is perpetually poor. It floods regularly. It is overcrowded. There are no good ... ...drinking. It is bad.
However, York has its plus points. As it is a small city, on your holiday schedule you allocate little time for it. Thus you dont waste too much time on it. Beer is cheap. The people are friendly. It is close to the A1 for a quick exit. Thats it.
Dont go there. ...
