    Disadvantages Disadvantages as there is a third party involved, there is a risk the booking process might go awry

    Holiday Autos (www.holidayautos.co.uk) is part of the www.lastminute.com group and has been in existence for a number of years. Essentially they operate as a broker to find the best deals in car rental across a broad range of countries. Although booking through a broker, the company has deals with all the major international car rental companies such as Europcar, Alamo etc and so you can be assured you won't have to pick up a car from "rent-a-wreck" or someone similar!     After successfully booking my package holiday and my travel insurance online, it made sense to complete the trio by renting a car through an online agent. There are any number of sites competing to offer all types of car rental with a wide disparity in prices, but all I needed was something basic and cheap for a week in Lanzarote.     Holiday Autos has been around for a few years now. Once an independent company, it was bought by the lastminute.com group. Thankfully, nothing changed when this happened and their service has been as good as ever. I've used them numerous times, and most recently on a trip to California. This time, I went luxury and rented a convertible. Most times I rent an average family car. My experiences have all been for US trips, but in various States.     Booked a long weekend car rental at barcelona airport through holiday autos and was given a booking with 'Centauro' rental cars. Turns out they are not even in teh terminal and you have to wait over an hour for a courtesy coach to their compound 10 minutes away. We paid for the entire booking through HA with Amex, but were told by the rental company that we had to pay an extra 480 Euros for fuel and accident excess despiet having inclusive insurance. When we reluctantly offered our amex card we were told they dont take it!. We didn't have any other credit cards and ended up paying via my UK ... more

    As we are going on our hols in October and had not booked a hire car with the tour operator, I thought that I would trawl the net for competitive quotes, which I had successfully done for the holiday, travel insurance and airport parking.     Advantages Advantages I thought price was ok, it is, but if you look a bit further you can find a lot better deals.

    Rented many times and normally it works ok. Yes, they normally dont use the main renters, which means you normally have to take a bus from the airport etc to get to your car, which takes longer. But that might be ok. However, if something goes wrong, everything just falls apart. Let me explain. You will rent the car from, and pay to Holiday Autos. But you will get the car from the local firm. If the local firm does not give you what you have paid for, whom do you call, maybe Ghostbusters...     I rented a car for use in Italy through Holiday Autos to be picked up from Europcar at Lamezia Airport on 11.05.2011. The car was duly collected and my credit card details were left with Europcar. The car was returned in perfect working order on 18.05.2011. The service recieved at the desk on collection and on return was faultless. The car itself, a little Fiat, drove well and was just right for our needs. On arrival home I recieved an invoice from Europcar saying I didn't owe them anything, so imagine my surprise when I discovered that Europcar had taken nearly £300 from my credit card. I ... more

    HOLIDAYAUTOS.CO.UK and EUROPCAR stink. I was forced to upgrade my hire car at Granada airport as another child travelled with us at the last minute and was told by the Europcar spanish staff in broken English that the price of the new car would be 292 euros. The already charged price of 170 euros would be subtracted from this I would only pay the balance ( 122 euros ). I booked the original car through holidayautos.co.uk. On my return my credit card had been charged for 292 euros and trying to contact an english person to complain to via holidayautos.co.uk was like trying to find a needle in a ... more

    I have been using holidayautos now for the last 6 years and I will use them again this summer. I have booked cars in USA, France and Spain all from holidayautos. One might say I have been lucky because I have no complaints I have heard tales of poor customer service, but have not myself experienced it. Each and every time I have got exactly what I booked (typically a brand new family sized saloon), for where I booked it and for when I booked it.     I have used Holiday Autos several times for bookings from Rome airports and usually been pleased with the service and price. My main complaint would be that the cars are often provided unwashed! However, after my last trip when the local partner Sixt unexpectedly charged almost £100 to my credit card a few days after the trip. 2 months later, I'm still trying to get this charge back. The explanation that I've had from Holiday Autos is that 'the car was returned 3 hours after the return deadline', therefore I was charged for an extra day. I can only imagine that story comes from the local ... more
