townley hall, Burnley

My understanding of the history of the building is that Towneley Hall used to belong to the Towneley family of Burnley for over 500 years, ( I am afraid i don't know much about the family but the history isn't necessary for the Hall's current use ) they left the area in 1901 and it was sold onto the council who then opened it as a museum to the public in 1903. Review of townley hall, Burnley

I often visit Townley Hall with my four year old god-daughter and we both love going there. It is a massive old mansion that was used by the Townley family and they only moved out about 20 years ago. I remember going to Townley Hall on a school trip and I loved the guided tour as you get shown all the monks hiding holes. It is a very educational place for children aged 4+.
