Advantages: Design hotel, good breakfast, nice area Disadvantages: Not in the very center of the city
...I have been in the "RexHotel" for a long weekend in April 2008.
The area
The hotel is situated in a quiet street 10-15 minutes walking from the center. In this area there are a lot of supermarkets (including one Lidl), restaurants (Italians, Chineses) and a lot of take aways. There is also a 7eleven that closes around 11.00 pm.
The hotel
When you enter at the hotel you can see the reception, a sofa and a internet desk (free to use). Our room was in the first floor and it was nice. Not huge but with space enough to have a table, a chest of drawers and a sofa.
The bathroom is quite impressive with black stone in a very design style.
In the room there are available two bottles of sparkling water and a detailed dossier of the attractions of the area with a lot of useful information. You can access free of charge to...

Advantages: Nice location/decent price Disadvantages: You could go cow mad
...Well if you are staying in Zurich you can make the choice of staying in a normal hotel, or head to where the cows are. My friend and I headed to the cows, but when we booked - we didnt know (about the cows) but you have been warned..
Located not so far from the main railway station, a walkable distance. When i say walkable I mean walkable back to the station as if you are carrying a big bag then you need to be warned - its up a hill! Though it is down the bottom of the hill so things could be worse. Just across the road from the hotel is a streetcar stop (Haldenegg) and you can catch Trams 6, 7, 10, or 15. Its just off the centre section of Zurich, but close enough that its still central, close to the main shopping street and the bar area. There are very good directions to the hotel on their website which offer directions...

Advantages: Exciting City, Great Food, Close to Slopes Disadvantages: Um....
...WHY ZURICH? Ah, well… I lived in Zurich more than ten years ago, and as a student, which has obviously coloured my impressions of the place, possibly in more ways than one… For the purposes of this review, however, this means firstly that if you're looking for accounts of its most luxurious hotels, its Michelin-starred restaurants, or for gushing tales of sprees along the gilded collection of Haute Couturiers and jewellers that constitutes the celebrated Bahnhofstrasse… my advice would probably be to read no further. I've been back to Zurich many times since, but most of my favourite haunts are probably still those that I first encountered as a student.
ANARCHY & SWISS FRANKS: I first arrived in Zurich as a naive seventeen year old. It was 1992. Smells Like Teen Spirit had just come out, and the youth of Zurich were in the throes...
