Iceland, Iceland, King of Countries
Advantages: Friendly, Clean, Comfortable Disadvantages: Not cheap, Located in the Busines District
...staying and my boyfriend said Park Inn Iceland – we were soon corrected that we should pronounce Iceland as ‘Istland’ – this was a bit further away than other people’s hotels, so we were one of the last to be dropped off.
When we arrived at the hotel the front of it didn’t look too impressive as it looked as though it was rather 80s-like. However, inside the hotel was a very different matter. Everything was very clean and well presented, although ... ...As guests at the Park Inn we had free access to the swimming pools in Reykjavik. Initially we thought that this would be inconvenient as the swimming pools weren’t located directly onsite, but we found one literally a road away. In the week we were in Iceland we didn’t have a chance to use this swimming pool as we were busy off on excursions, but apparently (according to our guide book) it’s heated by the natural springs in the city and lots of business ...

A 21st Century hotel in historic Reykjavik
Advantages: In the heart of traditional Reykjavic Disadvantages: none
We visited this hotel in February 2008 for a short break and for anyone visiting Iceland for the first time it is the perfect place to stay.
Firstly the hotel is located on the doorstep of the traditional, historical and prettiest part of Reykjavic which means that you can enjoy all the best that Reykjavic has to offer without having the stress of navigating around using taxis, cars or buses. You step out of the hotel into one of best areas for ... ...short break.
Secondly the hotel has historic and traditional elements of its own. As it was being re-built a couple of years ago they discovered one of the oldest buildings ever built by man in Iceland. This has been sympathetically restored and intergrated into the fabric of the building and can be viewed from a glass window near the front of the hotel or by entrance next to the hotel for a small fee.
As the hotel is newly built it has good clean ...

Hotel Cabin: Never Again
Advantages: The lift was quite close to our room, so we could get out of there nice and quickly. Disadvantages: Food poisoning, no sleep, unhelpful staff.
Worst hotel experience ever. Basic is one thing, but the staff were unhelpful at best, invisible when you needed them, the food gave both inhabitants of our room violent upset stomachs, and the incessant noise throughout the night, caused by some shockingly foul antics in the corridor behind our room. This went on all night (I was glad of our 4am departure), and the staff (there must have been some somewhere, even if I couldn't see them) did nothing ... ...the complete ignorance of the hotel staff to it, as they entirely neglected their duty to ensure a pleasant stay for their guests. It was certainly not what I expected in a hotel that had a reasonably good name, and not even 'Well, it is a basic hotel' would cover it. I wasn't expecting luxury, but my experience was well below the acceptable standard of a decent hotel. Never again ...

It's oh so quiet (sometimes) - sssh sssh
Advantages: Friendly service. Good sized rooms with comfortable bed. Disadvantages: Brutalist architecture. Flat, small towels. Expensive sancks / drinks.
Hotel Bjork is one of the five Kea Hotels in Iceland and our choice for accommodation on our recent holiday to Reykjavik. Why our choice? Well according to all the available brochures and web sites, "If you are looking for a centrally located hotel and would still prefer peace and privacy, Hotel Bjork is the right choice for you." Perfect! Just what we were looking for!
So was Hotel Bjork the right choice? Well pretty much - apart from a few minor ... ...other buildings in Reykjavik, Hotel Bjork is of a brutalist architectural design constructed of poured concrete. Like most brutalist buildings built in the 70s, the hotel's façade had somewhat discoloured to a pale grey in parts making it look a little tired. Just to the front of the hotel is a number of parking spaces (about 8 - 10) - subject to parking meter charges through the day but free from 6 p.m. - 9 a.m. Handy for us as we were hiring a ...

A clean and relatively comfortable hotel
Advantages: Close to Rekjavik city airport and the city centre Disadvantages: Not in a very nice area and a bit noisy with the planes
A good basic hotel but a bit noisy being right next to Rekjavik city airport. We stayed here for one night in July 2007 before moving on around Iceland. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and spoke excellent English. The room was a twin with no real view - basic but clean and comfortable. It also had blackout curtains which was useful with 24 hour daylight! It was about a 10-15 min walk into the city centre and the staff were very helpful in providing ...
