This is my first review so be kind please!! This is the 2nd visit to Rhodes, first time was to Trianda, this time was to the nearby resort of Ixia at the North West part of the Island.
This time we booked a late deal with Thomsons and we would be staying in 1 of 3 hotels/apartments. We ended up in the Anixis, a small family run apartment that was superb. From the time you arrive until the time you leave you are made to feel so welcome and nothing is too much for the staff there. Accomodation is on the basic side but more than adequate.
Both Ixia and Trianda are reasonably quiet resorts but with plenty of restaurants and a sufficient number of bars. On average we were paying between £20 and £30 for 2 adults and 2 childrens meals with drinks. Most restaurants we visited were excellent but a particular mention should be given to Alexandras.
The beach in both resorts is a pebbly / shingle which is difficult to walk on. For better beaches visit resorts to the South. However Ixia and Trianda are both lucky in the fact that there is a breeze there so the heat is far more manageable.
Faliraki beach is quite nice and when we went there it was quiet- no breeze though so much hotter. A must is a visit to the Water Park in Faliraki- hardly any queues and great value for money. Rhodes Town is a lovely place to visit, especially the Old Town- watch though because prices can vary quite considerably in the restaurants.
When youre in Rhodes Town why not go over to Marmaris in Turkey? Needs to be booked in advance as you need your passport to get a visa etc. Cost us about £100 for the 4(including entry into Turkey), VERY rough crossing- if youre not keen on water dont do it!! When you get to Turkey head for the bargains-if you dont like getting hassle from shopkeepers-DONT go!! By the end of the day I just wanted to return to the peace and tranquility that is Rhodes!
Weve just booked a return visit to the Anixis for this summer- the first time weve ever returned to a hotel twice so it must have been good!! All in all id recommend Rhodes to everyone- but especially if youre travelling with a family as theres so much to do and the people are so friendly and laid back, very child friendly.
