Advantages: Rooms and food are great, very relaxing Disadvantages: Location, location, location!
...turned out to be a journey of a quarter of the length of a 30DH one earlier in the day. We tipped everyone (except if they had tried to rip us off), and it is wise to have some small change on you at all times.
Djema el Fna is about a 15 minute walk from Riad O2, but rather than sticking to the main road you can cut through the souks which is a lot more interesting. Although the management have said Medersa Ben Youssef and the Musee of Marrakech are five minutes walk from the riad, they aren't. On our way back from the souks on our first day we accidentally wandered into the north east area of the medina, passing both of these landmarks, and the journey from there to the riad was around fifteen minutes and it was extremely scary. It was obviously an area that tourists do not go, as we got hassled and followed the whole way. I recommend...

Advantages: Peaceful, beautiful riad Disadvantages: Pollution, tat in markets, beggers, cats, transport
...I agree that Marrakesh is not so magical. I went there with my boyfriend for a romantic week away. It was anything but romantic.
Taxi from the airport dumped us in the main square, a 30 minute walk from our riad. Got ripped off by another taxi getting to the riad. Riad was closed!!! Waited 10 minutes for the manager to return.
The riad was in the heart of the medina/ To get a taxi involved a 10 minute walk through dirty streets lined with beggars staring at me and bfriend (a multi-cultural couple certainly draws attention there). Flies and cats everywhere. Tat for sale in the markets. Polluted. Chose to leave early when a cycle ran into me. Not magical, not romantic, but dirty and touristy....

Advantages: perfect for families, low prices, clean Disadvantages: no alkohol
...In the heart of Marrakech's Médina.....after a walk in the souks with all their noises, you can take you a break in this cafè. It's such a lovely place just a few minutes from J.Fna square. Outside you will read the name of the cafè and read the menù with the prices...you have only to do some stairs down, and you will find your quiet. The patio is nice with his round tables, but if you prefer, you can stay in the saloon. This cafè is a riad. There is the patio with a saloon. Up stairs you can find a terrace, a saloon and a Moroccain saloon where you can lay down on it's pillows reading a book, smoking the hargilè (I don't know how to write it). This place is perfect for families, first because children are welcome, second because it's not dangerous because the child can walking around, you will always see him and for getting out...
