Where is it?
Ricks cafe is located in Negril on West end road and is located on a cliff side spot so that visitors can enjoy food and drink by the sea.
What is it?
It is a cafe/bar type place that serves food, drink and also ... ...cliff. The main thing that Rick's cafe is famous for is its spectacular spot to enjoy the sunset. People come from all over the island whilst staying in Jamaica to enjoy a chilled out evening and enjoy the sunset so as you can imagine it has built up quite a reputation!
The cafe also has a selection of sun loungers set up in one area where there the swimming pool is and there is also an area where a band sets up every night to play.

What is it? It is a cafe/bar type place that serves food, drink and also has a shop on site along with a small swimming pool and access to the sea from the cliff. The main thing that Rick's cafe is famous for is its spectacular spot to enjoy the sunset. People come from all over the island whilst staying in Jamaica to enjoy a chilled out evening and enjoy the sunset so as you can imagine it has built up quite a reputation! Anything else? The place is real tourist trap with absolutely loads visiting each and every day and evening. Because of how many visitors this place sees the place can get very crowded in the evening when everyone likes to party but when I was there I noticed they had a couple of men who were getting people to 'tip' them to jump from one of the trees high up on the cliff all the way down into the lagoon. It was quite fun to watch as they did a few acrobatic tricks whilst up in the tree before leaping off to the crowds cheering. Also the swimming pool area is for people who pay only so you can hire out a small cabana at a cost of $75 for the whole day and then have access to the pool. Other than that if you just come in to Rick's it is free. Of course you may want to purchase a souvenir from the gift shop and they know lots of tourists will do this too and so prices are higher than normal in this place! The band set up in the evening so visitors can listen to some true reggae and it does set the tone for the evening with people dancing and partying the night away.
Food and drink: The food selection they have is typical Jamaican cuisine consisting of things like Jerk chicken and snapper. You can also get a variety of drinks with the national beer 'Red Stripe available along with a selection of cocktails. Food prices start at about $6 and drinks at about $4, so not really that bad considering the location. If you want to rent a cabana around the pool but, know that you will be eating and drinking you can do so as part of a package which includes food and drink. It is not the cheapest but for approximately $175 you'd get a cabana for the day, 2 ricks beach towels, 1 bottle of Appleton rum, 1 appetizer and a free gift. This is the most expensive package with the cheapest at $125.
Overall opinion: I thought this place was wonderful and would certainly want to go back if I was ever in Negril - I don't know if I'd travel across the island to go but if staying near then I'd highly recommend a visit.
Advantages: Sun, Sea and ........ Disadvantages: Drugs(though this may be an up side to some of you!) tee hee!
miles of white sand beaches which are absolutley beautiful. There are a few large all inclusive resorts, including Hedonism II, which is an adult nudist colony! We stayed in a small local hotel run by a local lady, which was perfect for us as we wanted to see some of the REAL Jamaica.
SITES TO SEE
We visited the amazing Dunns River Falls, which is a unique waterfall of many tiers of rocks. It is 600 feet, and you can climb all the way. Dont worry it is not very steep and if you go with a tour, you are provided with a tour guide. All the group hold hands and you are led up the waterfall together. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Just remember to tip your guide!
We also visited RicksCafe, which is on the Western most tip of Jamaica, in Negril. Here you can see the most beautiful sunsets in the world! There is ...
that mattered to me was that it had hot water (I got a little preoccupied with hot water in Jamaica!)
~~~Rick's Cafe~~~
Everyone who goes to Negril goes to Rick's Cafe to see the sunset! It's perched on top of a rocky outcrop and there are mad people diving off the rocks into the cove below. To get drinks you first have to purchase tokens. As for the sunset, on my two trips they were pretty similar, lovely, but not the best I've seen - that award would have to go Cape Town!
~~~Negril Lighthouse~~~
I am drawn to lighthouses, so we had to visit Negril Lighthouse and we were joined on the guided tour by some Americans. One of the junior lighthouse keepers escorted us round the lighthouse. At the end of the tour, the Americans asked if it was safe to swim off the rocks at the bottom of the cliff beneath the lighthouse. Our ...
