Advantages: Hustle, bustle, colour, bargains
Disadvantages: Variable quality, not so good for souvenirs

Great for a short break

Advantages: All pedestrianised
Disadvantages: Agh - I can't find that restaurant again

with its narrow alleys, squares, and tall buildings hundred of years old, and there are things to see, museums, and historic churches, all around. Things to do: Just walk. And then you'll get lost and have to walk some more find out where you are. Go up the spire of St Peter's church (Old Riga's tallest) and look out across the lovely rooftops. Go round the huge indoor and outdoor Central Market across the river from the bus station. Actually this is a walk out of the old town, but you must go - the amazing Art Nouveau architecture in the Elizabetes and Alberta iela area. This is the finest of its type in Europe. Note: due to the cobbles I'm not sure Old Riga would be much good for pushchairs and wheelchairs. ...
