Dr Oetker's Ristorante Pizzas

Advantages: It's Pizza!
Disadvantages: Too much oil

Dr Oetker's is a German family firm, founded in 1891 originally producing baking powder. They began selling frozen pizzas in Germany in 1970 and brought the Ristorante range to the UK in 2002. Varieties available: • Mozzarella • Speciale (Ham and Salami) • Pollo (chicken) • Hawaii (Ham and pineapple) • Funghi (mushroom) • Quatro Formaggi (four cheese) • Prosciutto (prociutto ham) Usually I eat Pizzas in restaurants or occasionally from a take away place such as Dominos. I am not really a fan of shop bought pizzas finding the base sometimes has the taste and texture of soggy cardboard, and the toppings a bit stingy and never getting to the edge. A while back I tried Dr Oetker's Bistro range which were small lunchtime sized pizza baguettes, so upon my last visit to Sainsburys I purchased ...

La Chope

Advantages: Great food, reasonable fixed price menu
Disadvantages: None

On our recent trip to the Loire Valley Mr Tart and myself arrived in Tours quite late on our first night. We drove down to Tours from Paris. We were going to stop for something to eat on the way but in the end decided to make our way straight to Tours and get settled in the hotel and then find something close by. A couple of minutes from our hotel we came across this place and were really glad that we did. LOCATION: La Chope is located at 25 Avenue Grammont. Our hotel was on the same road so we just came across it. It is about a ten minute walk from Tours? old town. The restaurant doesn?t stand out and the sign is not particularly bright so make sure you look out for it. THE EXPERIENCE: La Chope (which apparently translates as the tankard) is actually a fish restaurant. I?m not really a fish person (ok, that ...

Fabulous Florence

Advantages: Beauty. History, Culture. Good food and wine
Disadvantages: Expensive. Crowded with tourists.

When it comes to architectural grandeur and art treasures few cities on earth can stand comparison with Florence - the Tuscan city that pioneered the renaissance in Medieval Europe. It is truly a beautiful city with few equals even in Italy. Founded by the Romans in the 1st century, Florence did not expand significantly until Carolingian days, but between the 12th and 15th centuries it became the greatest cultural center in Europe; some might suggest it became the hub of the universe, not only producing magnificient architecture and countless art treasures but forming ideas that form the basis of even 20th century thought. Florence spreads itself along both banks of the River Arno and is surrounded by hills. Anatole France once wrote, "... The God who made the hills of Florence was an artist." It seems the proud people of this ...
