We stayed here for 6 nights in Febuary of this year (2008) and found it to be very good value for money, and the weather was surprisingly good which was an added bonus.
It was a last minute cheap gettaway I had already booked the flights with Ryanair and not decided where we were going to stay exactly, and then we decided to try lloret. We chose The Royal Beach because it was very resonably priced (£208 for 6 nights all - inclusive for two people) and it had fairly good reviews.
One mistake I did make though was I had booked the hotel and flights seperate and didn't bother with transfers we just got a taxi from Girona airport to resort, this was easy enough to do but cost 50 euros each way. I found out when we got home I could have booked a transfer both ways for about £25 so could have saved quite a bit of money there ...
Advantages: Inexpensive to get to from UK, fab scenery, great food and lots of sunshine! Disadvantages: Crowded beach and limited amenities in resort
mainly Brtish and seemed to consist of families and couples like ourselves. There was never a bun fight for the sun loungers beside the pool and there was always plenty of room for everyone. Infact compared to the larger hotels at the resort ours certainly had the upper hand in that respect.
The accomodation itself was very comfortable and exceptionally clean, if basic: each double room had twin beds and its own balcony. We were booked in on a bed and breakfast rate and I have to stay I've never been quite so spoilt for choice at breakfast times, there were: rolls, cold meats, cheese, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, melon, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, biscuits and much more .The breakfast was continental but there was something to suit even the most picky of eaters.
CampDeMar is a very small resort - popular with well heeled European ...
Advantages: great for walks and very friendly..... Disadvantages: getting used ot the coastal railway, very close to it...
, its quieter than Malgrat, but its more of a place where you book your hotel and go to the beach, the shops are very limited, however you do have market stalls at night and the resort is closer to Burger King! Lol.
If you wish to go, you can book a hotel and book a flight to Barcelona. If you fly to Barcelona, you can catch the train to Malgrat, however you have to switch once, we changed at Badalona ( not a resort, it's a Spanish town, pretty cool, stayed there once with aunty, too Spanish though lol). The train takes around an hour to get to Malgrat but its nice as you get to see the other resorts, but beware, close your eyes! Lol??. There's a few nudist beach's along the way??.
Overall, I really enjoyed Malgrat demar, there's plenty to do, and in two weeks you would of seen everything, done everything, oh and did I mention, there ...
