Having booked what we thought was a three star hotel (it turned out to be four) over the internet, we didn't quite know what to expect when arriving in Rome. After landing at the airport, we look a metro as far north as we could and attempted somewaht unseuccessfully to work out the bus system. My girlfriend and I eventually gave up, hailed a taxi and asked for our hotel.
The taxi driver had to check our map to see where it was (!) but then seemed satisfied. twenty minutes later we were still in the taxi and had just turned onto a motorway. Another few minutes passed before the driver pulled over and asked to see our map again. It took another 5-10minutes to get back across to where our hotel was, though the driver gave us a fairly substantial discount of the meter price.
We were thus not in the best mood arriving at the River Chateau, but our apprehensions soon lifted upon walking past bubbling fountains, having a very smatrly dressed porter welcome us and open the door, and stepping into an airconditioned marble lobby. The entire hotel was very luxuriously decorated with plenty of marble and brass to go around, and the rooms were no exception. There was a large double bed, a farily sizeable television, a good view over Rome, large wardrobes and a huge marble bathroom with an ornate bath and power shower.
In terms of facilites, there was free internet access in all of the rooms through the TV, and the front desk was very willing to help with taxis and give us details of what buses to get as well as providing us with a map of Rome and pointing out where , in their opinion, was best to visit and eat at. The restaurant in the Hotel was very good qaulity although expensive for dinner, and you are perhaps better finding places to eat in the centre of rome - there is no shortage of them!! Breakfasts were excellent, however, with a wide range of everything you could want.
The service was amoungst the best i have encountered, particulary for the price. The staff were always courteous and willing to help, and they kept breakfast open for half an hour longer than was advertised when we overslept on the first morning. Another example of the high quality of service was when we came down one evening to go into the city and it began to rain. no sooner had we paused at the door than a porter was next to us with an umbrella to borrow for the evening.
The location was the only negative point to the hotel, as it was a good 15 minute buss journey from the centre, and would take an hour or so to walk. Once we had worked out the bus service, this was not too much of a problem, though the busses seemed to stop at around 00:30 and any later than this you would need to may the 10-15euros for a taxi

Sounds nice - we visited the budget end (South) of Rome and had a two star hotel instead! Check out my review (http://travel.ciao.co.uk/Hotel_Pyramid_Rome__Review_5563688) for details of the differences!
