I have used this site - both with a tourer and hiring a static - for over fifteen years. The owners - Linda and Allan Proctor, work hard to keep the site clean and attractive. There are still peopl with their touring caravans on the site that used it when we started using it fifteen years ago - which must be a good endorsement for the site.
The season for the site is - touring caravans open from March till the end of October, and static caravans for hire and privately owned holiday homes open 11 months of the year.
An intersting ( and sometimes inconvenient) feature of this site, is that it can be cut off by the tide. The road is covered occassionally by a very high tide, usually when there is a full moon. On a very big tide there can be quite a bore wave when the tide turns. It is a fascinating site - and if you've no where to go it's great fun sitting on the bench overlooking the road andwatching the speed boats and water skis. TOURING SITE The outing van field is almost level, grassed with a hard road that goes all around the site. There are pitches for 50 caravans and hook ups are available for all pitches if they are required The toilet block is clean and well maintained with toilets, showers and a free hairdryer, there is also a disabled toilet and shower. On arrival at the site you are given a key for the toilet - the fact that they are kept locked ensures that they are always clean. Part of the toilet block also houses a small laundrette with washing and drying facilities, there is also a facility for dish washing with ample hot water. There is a small play area conveniently situated in the centre of the field , where it is easy to keep an eye on your children.( This was the scene of my son's first buisness dealings - aged 7, he took his new nephew in his buggy here and charged other kids 10p to lok at him - he made 70p!!!) Riverside does not cater for tents, motor homes, folding campers, transit type vans, minibuses, boats and jet skis.

THE GOLDEN BALL/SNATCHEMS As you enter the caravan site you drive past a wonderful little old pub. Officially called the Golden Ball it is known affectionatly in the area as Snatchems. This dates back to when was Lancaster was a major port at the height of the cotton trade. When ships were leaving Lancaster, should they be short of a crew member or two, they would put a boat out to The Golden Ball and press gang - "snatch" any available (drunken) locals to make up their number. Sitting at the front, you can study the bird life, watch the water-skiers or enjoy the view across to the Forest of Bowland. Inside the early 18th-century building, a small bar lies at the centre of three low-beamed rooms which are full of interest, the food there is superb with lots of local dishes served - like Morecambe shrimps, black pudding, Lancashire hot pot etc), they also sell real ale. There is an entrance to Snatchems from the caravan site.
