Advantages: Beautiful architecture, lots of culture, good pubs, loads to do, nice bars Disadvantages: Very crowded in summer, can be v.rough at night, not great for clubbing
...... ;)
The vastness of the inside will take you're breathe away. You can also climb to the top (be warned the stairs are a killer!) but the view of York is the best you'll get.
The best time to visit is in Winter, when the church is beautifully dressed for the Festive Season, and you can feel super-christmassy at one of their Carol Services. On New Years Eve, everyone gathers in front of the Minster to hear it's bells chime in the New Year: it is magical.

York City Walls
Open from 8am until dusk, the Walls are a great way to see the City, have a nice wander in the Summer or a romantic Evening stroll in Winter (just make sure you're down before they shut!)
The Shambles
A little huddle of narrow, winding streets with lots of cute little shops. Very touristy but definitely worth a look (try and find...

...A short summary

I hope that this trip report can be of some use to other first time visitors to New York City. Please get in touch if you have any questions or comments. Prelude
We have been talking about visiting NYC for many years now and we finally got a chance to see it when we took a family trip to the USA. We decided to first go to my sister in Ohio and spend a few days there. After this we would go to NYC and then go home to Norway from there.
Like most others we felt that we knew the city a bit even if we hadn't been there before. After all, the city is portrayed in so many movies and TV series, it sort...

.../5.
There is a giant wheel, like in London, by the museum. Oddly it's sponsored by Norwich Union - the people of Norfolk should be told! For £6 or so each you can see York from above... We didn't.
Then we walked around much of the city walls. It was raining a bit less that day but a riverside walk would have been difficult as the rivers had expanded somewhat. This is a good way to see the city and lets you get a bit of a feel for the city, new and old. From the walls you can see how the city is laid out and this may be an idea to do on the first day of a visit if the weather permits. It can be narrow, the paving is a little uneven in places and children might be keen to climb on it so they should be carefully watched. 5/5.
We ate in Nando's that night. A safe choice it however did the job.
Good points
There is a range of things to do...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
