Advantages: Brilliant place, history, shopping Disadvantages: Cost of living is high compared to Leeds
...York, a city I lived in for five years means so much more to me than the town I was born and brought up in. York has a great mix of the old and the new. The Minster, the multangular tower, Coppergate, Stonegate, the Bedern, Barley Hall, King's Manor, Micklegate House - the old parts of the city cry out to you from the distant past. The shopping area and all the new coffee shops that are springing up make it a very good town to go shopping in as well though.
The only thing that I didn't like about York during my student days was there are only three clubs and none of them are that good. Although the student night at Toffs was one of my favourite nights out of the week....

...New YorkCity is a cultural myriad, a mish mash of everything. It has everything - every culture you can think of, every shop you can imagine, some of the best sights in the whole world. No wonder it's classed as the world's capital city.
When you go to NewYork, you have to go up the Empire State Building. It has wonderful views - and it is hard to imagine that the building was built over half a century ago! To better the view from the Empire State Building however, try out the World Trade Center - the twin towers situated to the south of Manhattan - because from there you can even see the Empire State Building itself in its full glory.
There is so much to do and see in NewYork, it is worth taking a trip to see for yourself....

...New York is so damn amazing that my trip went past like a blur. The whole city is TALL - really - and I'd have to say this was is my favourite city. Sadly, I could only spend five nights in NYC, but I got a lot of stuff done, so here's my guide to the big apple.
Times Square
Make this a top priority. It's so fabulously chaotic, and the massive video screens (which adorn every building BY LAW) are funky. ABC studios is here, and they broadcast every morning, so you can go down and stand outside the studio windows for a chance to be on TV. Also, there's a last minute ticket desk on the square which allows you the chance to get tickets for Broadway shows, plays and the like on the day of the performance. Also worth a mention is the huge Virgin Megastore, which has two massive floors of music at decent prices (especailly compared to the UK...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
