We live in Laos and stay at Rivertime Resort and Ecolodge often. The resort has one very thorough and positive review here so I won't go over the observations made there since they cover the place pretty well.
However, there are a few additional points to make in addition to the previous review. Mainly, that the resort does have en-suite bathrooms and hot water showers in all of its private lodges. We found the food to be excellent and the staff extremely friendly and helpful, especially with our kids. An additional bonus is the many activities offered by the resort such as the floating swimming pool, Lao massages, riverboat trips, bicycles, local village tours, etc..
What we especially enjoyed was the 'forest footpath'. This is a 20-minute walk through the forest and is actually in the grounds of the resort. The footpath is about one metre wide and is cemented so it makes for easy walking even during the rainy season when other footpaths become too muddy. On either side of the footpath is natural, untouched old-growth secondary forest and gives a real sense of being deep in the forest without actually being too far of the beaten track.
The lodges themselves nestle between the untouched natural flora and forest cover giving a real feeling of living with nature while enjoying the comfort of the well-maintained and very clean lodges.

The floating swiming pool is an extension of the floating restaurant and is built on bamboo rafting, allowing the river to flow through the pool. You can get good exercise by swimming upstream (like running on a treadmill) without the danger of being swept away by the current. I have a photo of it, but don't know how to post it here.
