Riviera Hotel, Santa Susanna

We stayed here in 2006 the last week May, first week June on a "Special" from flyglobespan out of Edinburgh, taken off their website at flyglobespan.com

Flights were good timings to and from Edinburgh, and we were met at Barcelona by their transfer reps service and escorted to our coach. The transfer to Santa Susanna took just over an hour and twenty minutes, but this would obviously be longer in peak season just due to traffic ...
...the newer part of anta Susanna starts and the older part ends, we remember this hotel from around twenty years ago. When we stayed before it was officially a 1 star, nowadays it classes as a 3 star, but I have to say frankly there's not a lot of difference. The rooms have been re-furbished in that time, and the public areas have very much been upgraded, but the rooms tend to be on the small side for a 3 star hotel if it was being built now.

The Hotel is located just where the newer part of anta Susanna starts and the older part ends, we remember this hotel from around twenty years ago. When we stayed before it was officially a 1 star, nowadays it classes as a 3 star, but I have to say frankly there's not a lot of difference. The rooms have been re-furbished in that time, and the public areas have very much been upgraded, but the rooms tend to be on the small side for a 3 star hotel if it was being built now.

We found nothing wrong with the food overall, rather the people queuing more than anything else. A bit of common sense would dictate that you should give way to someone trying to get or carry hot soup or other dishes, but it seemed sadly lacking amongst the guests when we were there.

Entertainment was average for this standard of hotel, two to three nights of dance/disco music and the same (2 to 3 nights) of a choice of Flamenco, a Brazil Show and a Magician. The resort has a couple or so clubs and discos (too young for us) and Malgrat, the next resort along is a twenty minute walk along the prom, plenty of pubs, bars, and cafes to help with the journey.

Ten minutes takes you to the station for trips further afield, and it's an easy ride into the centre of Barcelona for the Gaudi buildings and Cathedral, much cheaper than going on any organised trips. Easy train journeys to Calella, Blanes, Lloret and Tossa, although you have to get the bus at Blanes station to Lloret, and then transfer to get to Tossa.

We paid £230.00 each for two weeks half board. At that price we have NO problems going again any time, but we do like the Costa Brava generally anyway, we've holidayed there for more than thirty years.
