Hotel Flamingo Torremolinos, also sometimes called the Roc Hotel Flamingo Torremolinos. Not sure if this hotel is part of the Roc hotel chain.

Hotel rating ***
My rating ***
Airport 4 miles
Train station 200 mtrs
Bus station 400 mtrs
Torremolinos centre 300 mtrs
Beach 10 minutes downhill. 15 minutes back uphill.

I have had a 3 night and a 5 night all inclusive break at the Flamingo, both times in January.

It is very close to Malaga Airport (4miles) and the taxi fare ranges between 8 and 12 euros from the airport and 10 to 14 euros from hotel to airport, no idea why but the taxi driver just kept pressing buttons and the price kept going up after we arrived at our destination. Maybe their is a spanish taxi driver who is a member of Ciao and can explain the tariffs to us.

First impressions when you pull up to the hotel. Concrete high rise probably built in the 1970s. Road beside the hotel is fairly busy, but road noise was not a problem. Their are a few steps upto the the hotel and also a ramp for diabled people or people with heavy luggage my wife included in the last catagory.

Upon entering the hotel a large reception area which is open 24hrs greets you. The man behind the reception smiles and greets you in english and i didn't even have my Union Jack shorts on. We booked the hotel online and recieved an email with the referance number on how many nights stopping and what board we were on, which we printed off. The receptionist accepted this without a problem. Because we were all inclusive he gave us both the obligatory bracelet for our stay. We got a leaflet that explained what we got what time we got it and where we got it. Very simple and straight forward.

Their are 3 lifts to take you to the floor you want first time we were on floor 4 the second time floor 6. Both rooms were of same standard fairly large, very clean and a comfy double bed, 2 bedside tables, another larger table with portable Tv on, only local channels and BBC World can be viewed. their is a large built in wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers for a normal couple, but not my wife with her big heavy suitcase (but i do love her). Both rooms had a bathroom with bath and shower. liquid soap and shampoo was provided and also a hairdryer. Their was also ample supply of towels that were changed every day. The only thing different was one room had a massive corner balcony and the other had a balcony that you could just get two chairs on.

Views from the hotel balconys not vary impressive, just built up flats for locals, offices and other hotels. their is also building work going on but not to bad.

The main bar is large. The entertainment is all held in here, If you could call it entertainment. The shows are very basic ranging from dancing, bingo, flamenco dancers and a singer. Don't expect to get near the dance floor the spanish pensioners line the chairs all around it till they are 5 deep. But give them their due as soon as you are aloud to get up and dance they fill the floor. The first time we were here it was difficult to get a drink because their was alot of British and they sat around the bar being lager louts and drinking for Britain because they had to get their monies worth. Second time totally different around the bar was clear. But after talking to the barmen who was quite grumpy the first time he explained the bar was now none smoking and he was much happier and friendlier to the guests. Good idea to go none smoking for my wife and i as we do not smoke. But if you do, not so good and not so good for kids because the games room and outside around the pool where the only public places you could smoke.

The restaurant was not big enough for the size of the hotel. But the food was of a good standard

Breakfast plenty of choice. Cereal, ham, cheese, bread, biscuits eggs cooked differently each day bacon one day (not English), Sausage another day (not English).

Lunch any amount of different salads. Soup one fish and 2 meat dishes and also a vegitarian dish that was usually rice.

Dinner was very much like the lunch. But no two meals were ever repeated on the holiday while we were there.

My wife and i enjoyed this hotel. We were in the minority. Talking to other British people they couldn't believe we had returned a second time. Everyone agreed the hotel was clean the food was good the staff friendly, centrally located and good value. But nobody liked the spanish bacause they pushed shoved and were very rude. We only found this happened at meal times and when a show was on. So if you just ignored them or laughed about the way they went on you will enjoy your stay in the Hotel Flamingo.

Hope this review helps.

Thanks for reading.
