Advantages: Quiet and Relaxing. Typical Old Spain
Disadvantages: None for me.

...like this, is called Calle de la Hoz. This road and its houses were built in the 16th Century, and it has an “L” shape that makes it a very popular destination for visitors to Oliva. One other main place we visited and enjoyed was The Castle of Santa Ana. This dominates the landscape of Oliva. Here, remains part of the fortification, which, when you get to the top, you can see over Oliva to the orange groves and coast. When we reached the top buy a manmade footpath and steps, we just stood for a while and took in all the roof tops and church domes that areall over the town. Our walk though the town took us to other interesting places to see. The Sant Roc Church with its 2 domed top has its origins in the Moslem community that lived in the Raval in the middle of the 15th Century. Advantages: Great scenery, and low level walking suitable for all.
Disadvantages: Higher level walking for experienced hillwalkers only.

...remembering that though the conifers replaced the heather, the heather itself is not the mountains’ original mantle. As these slopes were ploughed for afforestation, many pine and birch stumps were revealed. These hillsides had once been clothed with the ancient forest of Caledon. This forest had been clear-felled or burned to provide grazing for sheep, allowing the heather to colonise. So the picture-postcard purple heather is no more natural than the succeeding Sitka Spruce. The descent into Glen Doll is a steep zig-zag – hazardous to descend, but makes you relish the fact that you’re not going the other way! Descending into the fir trees, you cross the Capel Burn, and join another track at the Cald Burn. So now you exercise your choice. You can turn and go back the way you came, or you can return by a different route. Okay... Read review
