Advantages: A Beautiful Place In A Lovely Setting
Disadvantages: Mainly Just Ruins

Roche Abbey lies approximately 13 miles to the East of Sheffield and 9 miles to the West of Doncaster in Maltby Beck, in South Yorkshire. Although the Abbey is now in ruins it is a place that is well worth a visit if you are ever in the area, and though it was one of lesser known Cistercian Abbeys of its era it is nonetheless a very typical example of a 12th century Abbey.

So this is the route I used to travel regularly when going to various relatives houses, usually for my dinner (I was a bit skint!). ★ Directions: ...
...will see the sign for Roche Abbey. You can also get to Roche Abbey via the A1 taking the A634 from Blythe towards Maltby. Depending on which direction you arrive from you could get completely different first impressions of this place. Once you arrive there is a small parking area just of the main road with a short walk (about 10mins stroll) down a cobbled path to the valley floor where the Abbey is actually situated. Roche Abbey is pretty secluded ...
