Roda, Corfu is an excellent holiday if you are looking for a relaxing trip with great weather, lovely food and friendly locals. This is the perfect holiday for couples or older tourists. The scenery is beautiful, very green and plenty of olive groves. The beach was peaceful on both of our visits - but this was September. The beach was pebbles and I prefer sand, but the water was shallow and crystal clear.
We stayed in the same block of apartments on both visits and even a year later, the owners remembered our names, and some of the shop owners also remembered. This is maybe because I am exceptionally white and Scottish and they maybe see more English tourists? But I think they just take a real interest and appreciate folk coming back.
The food is brilliant especially the greek salads with feta and olives. The beef was very tasty and there was also plenty of bars offering full British menus with all the pub faves. The local drink ouzo, was disgusting, and after we sampled it the first day, we went onto wine instead. As we stayed in apartments we bought some food to cook ourselves and it was very cheap and easy. This made it a very reasonable holiday - only £240 each for 2 weeks with direct holidays.
Most tourists were hiring mopeds, but I wouldnt recommend this as the roads are very bad and some of the driving we saw was horrendous. We hired bikes one day, but its really too hot to cycle very far. The bus trips are great value and safer.
The only scary part of the holiday was landing in
Corfu as the plane drops steeply there is water on both sides of the run way. However the view of Corfu Town lit up at night from the plane was spectacular!
