ROGER WILLIAMS HOTEL – 31st St. & Madison Ave. – NYC
Imagine this ---
Your car pulls up to an unpretentious building on a NYC street corner. You step out and experience a feeling akin to safety. (Yes, in NY). It is clean. It is busy, but it is quiet.
You pull open a heavy glass door (feeling of security) and step inside. Immediately, your eyes widen to capture vastness, a grand piano and breathtaking pillars that seem to rise to the sky. Glistening sun and earth tones cause a feeling of warmth to seep to your very core. Instantly, a bellhop approaches and offers to take your bags. Your feet follow him, but your head keeps turning back to marvel.
At the front desk, a very friendly clerk greets you in a very friendly manner. The check-in process is quick and handled with courtesy and respect --- no confusion, no waiting and no errors. The bellhop escorts you to your room. On the way, he treats you as though he is actually glad you are there.
You enter a guest room that is modern, stylish and spacious. The bellhop explains all of the amenities. He says, “If you want anything all you have to do is ask”. So, a few minutes later you pick up the phone and you do --- ask. You hang up and just like magic everything you want is delivered with a smile. You think, “I won’t have to go without anything. I’m not lost and alone in a big city. I can get anything I want anytime I want. Hey! What was I worried about? I’m even better off here than I was at home”. For as long as you remain a guest at the Roger Williams Hotel these thoughts will remain true.
Every time you leave, you will come back to a room that is spotless. A fresh rose in a vase will brighten your every day. Every night you’ll sleep like a baby submerged in soft, cushy down. Replenished Perrier will quench any thirst your travels may muster. An adjustable soothing/invigorating European shower will make you sorry you have other things to do.
If you decide to stay in and take a rest, just pop a movie of your choice in the VCR. (It’s free) 24/7 stroll on over to the mezzanine. Have coffee, tea or whatever you like and some of the best pastry you’ll ever taste. (Free also). Sit in the mezzanine and enjoy the breathtaking overview of the lobby. Chat with other guests. Or take your “goodies” back to your room and munch as if you were at home.
On the day that you checkout of the Roger Williams Hotel you will experience a pang of emptiness and sadness. You will be asked if you enjoyed your stay. My bet is you’ll say, “yes”. You will be invited to return. My bet is --- you will.
I am somewhat of a discriminating hotel guest. I have stayed at various other hotels in NYC. For comparison see E-Pinions of THE HAMPSHIRE, THE AMERITANIA, W HOTEL and THE COMFORT INN. I cannot honestly voice one single, solitary complaint about the ROGER WILLIAMS HOTEL. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for some of the others.
At the time of this E-pinion, the Roger Williams website price for a standard room is $240.00/night and worth every penny. TIP: Make reservations as far in advance as possible. The RW gets booked solid for good reason.
