I'd never heard of this market until I moved in around the corner, and now go there every week.
Roman Road is brilliant even when the market is not on for buying clothes, there are loads of small clothes shops - one caters for larger sizes, one for leather clothes and loads of places doing funky clubbing stuff. Most of it is an R&B high fashion vibe, but there are a lot of interesting little finds. The makeup shop mentioned in the other review is great, and there are also some great shoe shops. Roman road is also the place for some surprisingly good one pound style shops.
The market is mainly full of clothes, bags and shoes, although there are also toys and general houseware stalls. My favourite stall has jewellry for 20p each - it's constantly packed, but you can find your way there by listening out for the cockney stall holder yelling 'Come on ladies, sort 'em out' non-stop all day!
Everyone is really friendly and chilled out, willing to help hunt through for the size you need or get it in next week. There are clothes from most High Street stores, with ton sur ton and French Connection stalls being particularly good.
I have found loads of good buys for the office, with skirts and trousers for a fiver, and some really nice coats.
There is plenty of food to be had if you get peckish with all the shopping, with an excellent chippies, two pie and mash shops, chinese food and a number of greasy spoons.
The best way to get there is with the number 8, or go to bow road or bow church, and the market is signposted.

If you take a number 25 from aldgate, it goes up through whitechapel, stepney, and mile end. Get off at Bow Road tube station, and the market is a signposted five minute walk. It's about a 15 minute bus ride depending on traffic. Or you could get the tube!

Sounds like the type of place I'd love! Shame I don't live in London, Emma x
