See what a 1000 people built
Review of Palace of Parliament (Palatul Poporului), Bucharest by alexandra.gazda

Advantages: beautiful, unique
Disadvantages: not allways opened

The Palace of Parliament is the most beautiful building that was built by a comunist president. It is the second building after Pentagon. Situated in the middle of Bucharest is the perfect place to have a global view of the capital of Romania. Nowadays the building is the place where romanian politicians works and where the laws are debate by the Senat. It has a wonderful architecture with a lot of rooms and great halls. Inside you can see a lot ...
...This building is opened for turistic visits and once a year all the people can enter and visit the rooms where politicians work. It's a place that really deserves to be visited! So do not wait to much for it! You will have the great experience to meet one of the most beautiful things that the comunist era created. ... Read review

Hanul Lui Manuc - a hyped up hotel
Review of Manuc's Inn (Hanul lui Manuc), Bucharest by fizzytom

Advantages: Relatively cheap for capital city, looks nice from outside, interesting history
Disadvantages: Poor service, grubby rooms, needs updating

When you are traveling for a longer period of time without any concrete plans, arriving in a capital city without any pre-booked accommodation can be a daunting prospect. A few days before we were due to travel to Bucharest we met Unrest (actually Ernest, a charming Swiss) traveling in the opposite direction to us who recommended we try Hanul Lui Manuc. We recognized the name having seen it as particularly recommended in our Lonely Planet and we ...
...this function appeared not to be available. When we arrived in Bucharest we headed straight for Hanul Lui Manuc and found it quite easily, tucked away behind Piata Unirii, not far from the Palace of Parliament. It is less than a minute from a Metro station and close to a shopping plaza. We were instantly charmed; the timbered building forms a quadrant with a wide archway as the entrance. It is instantly recognizable as a former coaching inn. Inside ... Read review

Bran - a living history
Review of Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Brasov by alexandra.gazda

Advantages: beatiful, interesting, verry good for people that are interested about legends
Disadvantages: quite hard to get there

Dracula Castle is a historical castle situated in the middle of Transilvania, Romania. It is located at 30km from Brasov, an important and beautiful city of Romania. You can go there by plane, train or car but it is important to notice that there is a hard accessible road because the castle is located in the mountains, so if you decide to visit a place full of mistery take care to have a good access. The castle was build in the middle age by the ...

Romanian Athenaeum - music and beauty
Review of Romanian Athenaeum (Ateneul Roman), Bucharest by sambadi

Advantages: lots of quality classical music
Disadvantages: none

...music performed is at the Romanian Athenaeum, Strada Franklin 1 (tel: (01) 315 6875). This splendid 19th-century building - looking like Bucharest's answer to London's St Paul's Cathedral - presents a fairytale backdrop, splendid acoustics and plays host to the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra and other top performances. The lobby has a beautifully painted ceiling decorated in gold leaf and curved balconies cascading in ringlets of spiral staircase. ...
...Today the seat of the Romanian Philarmonic George Enescu, the auditorium can seat 1,000 spectators comfortably, and is renowned worldwide for its outstanding acoustics. I remember being around 10 years old when my mum put my new dress on me and my new shoes and we went to my first concert. First i was imppresed with the fancy dresses women were wearing and men dressed all in black, having a cigarette, talking and laughing in front of the Athenaeum. ... Read review
