Once in a life time oppurtunity

Advantages: Surreal, limited crowd
Disadvantages: Getting there

...see the Pope in the Vatican for a private audience on a Wednesday morning! Giuseppe & his family are all Catholics, however I'm not, in fact I'm not that religious but I do have the utmost respect for people & their chosen religion. My immediate thoughts were a private audience with the Pope would be a room with four of us sitting down answering questions from the man himself about our holidays, how's the dog & such like! In actual fact a private ...
...made progress arriving in the Vatican with about 10-15 minutes spare, however we couldn't find a parking space! Well you know the old saying, when in Rome do what the Romans do, so we did! He parked nose into the kerb with the front wheels on the pavement & the back of the car sticking out into the busy traffic. We were desperate! We decided that if he gets a parking ticket we would all chip in to cover the costs. We all then ran & arrived in Vatican ...

Its Colossal

Advantages: Great Site to Behold
Disadvantages: Queues, Very Hot.

...to Rome I visited the Colosseum, back when we booked the trip, this was the first thing both my boyfriend and I had said we wanted to see. We stayed approximately a 10 minute walk from the Colosseum and had decided on a bus trip to get our bearings. We sat on the bus looking around for any sighting of the famous structure and realised as we turned the corner on to Via Claudia we saw it, sitting at the end of the road in all its glory. The History ...
...and using it for the Colosseum, especially in busy periods, as June was. Although we had brought the Roma Pass we were not aware on entrance you can actually avoid the main queues for the ticket booths and in fact by pass them completely and use the Roma Pass in the entrance machine, which lets you straight in. From entering to getting in took 2 and a half minutes. We were told outside to expect a 45 minute wait. If you opt for the queue and the ...

QQQQQQQQQQUEUE But Must SEE

Advantages: Art, Sculptures
Disadvantages: Queue

...had been to Italy in the Month of June 2007. It was on a saturday we made our visit to Vatican City. We read lot of articles describing the queue hence we planned our visit sometime early morning (around 8). HOW TO ------------ Rome is well connected. To get around rome by Metro (train) and bus is very easy. There are basically two lines. Metroline B (Blue Line) and Metroline A(Red Line). Metroline A goes to Vatican City. You need to depart at ...
...there was some accident in the metroline on the day of our visit and Metroline A was closed. We had to look for an alternative. We anyway had enough details about bus routes. We then took Bus Route No.64 from Termini(main railstation) and got down near St.Peter's Basilica (worlds' largest Basilica). St.Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museum are not too far. It is easy to locate. It was 10 A.M by the time we reached St.Peters Basilica. There is an information ...

An absolute monstrosity

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: It is horrid on every level.

Jesus, I wonder how much of a bung Westfield had to chuck the way of some of Derby City Council to get them to allow planning permission for this unbelievable eyesore. It looks like someone has built a distribution depot in the city centre, it is just a huge grey box. A shit-hole of biblical proprtions - I hope Osama Bin Laden chooses it as his next target and then we'll be rid of it. Thanks very much to Westfield and Derby City Council for ruining ...
...the current recession, Derby will still be firmly entrenched because it has become an awful place to visit. Shops around the city are closing down at an alarming rate and nobody seems to like the new centre so there really is no reason to go to the city at all. ...

Rome's Second Airport - OK for the Pope!

Advantages: Small and well connected
Disadvantages: Few Shops and Bars, Small Check-In area

I first flew into Ciampino nearly 10 years ago and it was really very poor back then, mainly due to the fact it was being extended and extensively rebuilt. It now could be classed as reasonable, at least it is still small enough to nearly not get lost in, unlike Rome's other airport - see separate review. If you fly in to the Italian capital using one of the many budget airlines, it is almost guaranteed that you will arrive at this airport, but ...
...itself and is much more user-friendly than Fiumicino is. The main drawback is that there is little to do there with only a few shops and bars, but as most of you will be flying "budget", there is hardly time to waste as generally you don't spend too much time in the airport anyway. Overall, a decent relatively straight forward airport, no frills but no particular headaches either! ...
