Love It or Hate It - You Decide...
Review of Il Vittoriano, Rome by Ottavia

Advantages: It's central, has a great view, interesting exhibit
Disadvantages: It's not loved, because of it's appearance.

...what is beautiful in architecture), Il Vittoriano is a monument dedicated to the first king of a united Italy, Vittorio Emmanuell II. Until this time, Italy had been a series of fragmented states, governed or ruled by various foreign powers, including the Spanish Bourbon family and the Austrian Metternich empire. Piedmont in the north was the only one to not be ruled by a foreign presence, but for a long while suffered due to despotic and reactionary ...
...Also, the top of the Il Vittoriano is connected to the campidoglio, saving you another climb of the capitoline hill. It's worth going this way to look around too. There are some parking spaces out the back, which will help if you want to do this the other way around! Overall, there's not much else to say about it, as I'm sure many locals feel! In my opinion, visually it's excellent to go and have a look at and to visit the museum. But I can appreciate ... Read review

Piazza del Popolo - A Brief Review
Review of Piazza del Popolo by Ottavia

Advantages: Near to other attractions, great places to get lunch and coffee
Disadvantages: Out of the way a bit.

Piazza del Popolo is north east of the city centre and located just above tourist attractions such the Spanish Steps and some great streets for shopping that the Italians frequently visit themselves. It's near to the mauseleum of Hadrian and just below a fantastic park, Borghese, that's great to eat lunch and relax in. The squares name is derrived from the modern Italian for 'the peoples square'. The church that stands on one side of the square, ...
...the city. From the Piazza you can get to Borghese Park very easily (just up some stairs to the right), which has an excellent view over the city and many other attractions. It's a beautiful place to take a lunch bought from a small side street deli and sit, eat and enjoy the lush park. It's a large space so isn't overly crowded and is nice to visit to just get out of the way of all the crowds at the Spanish Steps. It's worth walking up Via del Babuino ... Read review

Termini - Great facility
Review of Statione Termini by Ottavia

Advantages: Good shops, clean, easy to navigate around, car rental service
Disadvantages: Busy

Statione Termini has it's ups and downs. It's a useful and popular train station that's maximised it's capacity by building in useful shops, car rental office and places to buy food. Although usually crowded, this is due to it being the only train station in Rome and because it's main bus station is right outside. Also a lot of tour busses pass through. As you enter the train station you will notice that all the appropriate info is ahead on various ...
...start to the left and continue down the wide corridor where it opens into a medium sized mall. Continuing from here you'll find the platforms. The shops themselves are varied and particuarly useful for travelling - bookshops and takeaway snack food. There's a restaurant/cafe on the first floor, just on the left of the main entrance and the book shops. There are two side entries which lead to the shopping mall. It's easy to navigate and even after ... Read review

Once in a life time oppurtunity
Review of Vatican by ScottishWestie

Advantages: Surreal, limited crowd
Disadvantages: Getting there

...see the Pope in the Vatican for a private audience on a Wednesday morning! Giuseppe & his family are all Catholics, however I'm not, in fact I'm not that religious but I do have the utmost respect for people & their chosen religion. My immediate thoughts were a private audience with the Pope would be a room with four of us sitting down answering questions from the man himself about our holidays, how's the dog & such like! In actual fact a private ...
...made progress arriving in the Vatican with about 10-15 minutes spare, however we couldn't find a parking space! Well you know the old saying, when in Rome do what the Romans do, so we did! He parked nose into the kerb with the front wheels on the pavement & the back of the car sticking out into the busy traffic. We were desperate! We decided that if he gets a parking ticket we would all chip in to cover the costs. We all then ran & arrived in Vatican ... Read review

The harbour city of ancient rome
Review of Ostia Antica, Rome by poeta73

Advantages: See the past
Disadvantages: none

Ostia Antica is an ancient archeological site. One of the best preserved site in Rome. Ostia antica was the harbour city of ancient Rome. I am telling about a site of nearly 2000 years ago: walking along its stretts, u can se the way of life of the ancient Romans. The site was built on the mouth of the Tiber river: today the whole site is very farer than in the past: the sand trasported by the waters in the centuries, created new lands. Today Ostia ...
...river". In the ancient times, Ostia was one of the most vivacious cities of the roman empire: it was built in the middle of important commercial paths. Its importance grow under Adriano when in Ostia were till 100.000 inhabitants. The ruins are exceptionally conserved: the site, as i can know, is second in beautifulness at Pompei ruins. Near to the roman ruins, there is the old castle of pope Giulio II (XV century) and the old village with the ... Read review
