Piazza Navona
Review of Piazza Navona by medgenie

Advantages: Worth going
Disadvantages: No

It's one of my favourite piazza in Rome. This is a square full of people day and night, with restaurants and cafes surrounding it. The centre of the square is the Fountain of the Rivers with the obelisk and the Fountain of the Moor with the God of Sea. They are both created by the famous Italian sculptor in history - Bernini's . This place is getting popularity because of Dan Brown. For those Dan Brown's fans, may I remind you that this is the "water ... Read review

The Pantheon
Review of Pantheon & Piazza della Rotonda by medgenie

Advantages: Very unusual building
Disadvantages: No

The Pantheon is an interesting place in Rome. It is the best preserved ancient building in Rome, used to be a temple for pagan worshippers but it's now a catholic church. It has a very unusual design. It's circular and the walls roll up into a dome at the top. Dome is not uncommon in many European architecture but a hole in the apex of the dome is definitely worth going to have a look. There are no windows and the building sole's source of light ... Are we there yet?
Review of Piazza di Spagna by princess1

Advantages: A free seat in the midst of all that is hectic!
Disadvantages: Not like the pictures

I loved these steps in all the photos i'd ever seen. i couldn't wait to get there. In the end my husband, two kids and I arrived at them from the top and had hurried down them (through the hoards of people) before we realised where we were. It was July and there were no flowers. Neither was there any sign of there ever being any. I would be very interested to hear if anyone has actually seen flowers, apart from in pictures. Having said all that, ...
...enjoyed people watching from a free seat, for quite a while. It was lovely. A real hive of activity. I could have sat longer if there hadn't been so many shops calling me. It is also the best place to get your bearings. You can see lots of streets meeting and so many shops and cafes to chose from. I would definately recommend it............but don't expect the flowers. ... Read review

Christmas Market in Piazza Navona
Review of Christmas Market in Piazza Navona by caterina

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...squares in Rome. During th Christmas holidays it gets decked out and decorated with lights and its outlines are surrounded by stalls selling Christmas goods. It is lovely to go there and choose a variety of hand-crafted pieces for the Crib, or Christmas Tree decorations. On the morning of 6th January (the feast of the Epiphany) legend says that an old lady, dressed in rags and flying a broom, called La Befana, brings sweets and candies to children ...
...January 6th. In Piazza Navona Christmas Market it is possible to buy lumps of 'charcoal' made of sugar to put in the children's sock to hide all the sweets and goodies below. I hope you will visit and enjoy this beautiful square and that it gives you as much joy as it did me when I was a little child in Rome! ... Read review

Roll Up, Roll Up. Roll Up
Review of Circus Maximus by proxam

Advantages: A quiet spot to escape the tourist frenzy of Rome
Disadvantages: Quiet!

...on our way to the Circus Maximus. What a swizz! The Circus Maximus bears as much resemblance to the Big Top as a hippodrome does to a rhinoceros. Why it's nothing more than a huge open space where spectators used to watch races and such in Roman times. It dates back to Etruscan times when it was first used to entertain the masses but its heyday arrived around 50BC when Julius Caesar had the builders in and enlarged the place to accommodate an ...
...surroundings are pretty photogenic too. Circus Maximus is a park these days, but not a delicate, intricately planted park. Nor is it an elegant promenading type of park...ditto a wildlife have. It's just a big expanse of grass (and not very good grass at that) with a few trees around the perimeter. However, a little sprinkle of imagination and you can almost hear the screaming roar of the crowd, the thundering chunder of the chariots and the crack ... Read review
