I went to Perguia in summer 2004, I went from Manchester Airport to Ciampino in Rome. The flight was 2 to 3 hours and when i got off the plane i can remember the blazing heat hiting me it was terrible, when we got inside it was just as hot it was only when I got to the luggage point there was actually some air conditoning, but not much. The place was unbeliveablly busy there didn't seem to be nearly another workers to handle all the problems. My family and I waited 1 hour looking for our luggage and it never came, then after waiting in a queue for 30mins where the was only one receptionist trying to sort out several problems it seemed we would never find our luggage. They said it must be somewhere in the airport and they said they would contact our hotel and let us know. We suggested it might still be in Machester, but they didn't listen and after 3 days of wearing the same clothes they finally saw sense and checked with Manchester Airport and un-suprisingly it was there.
The airport was just to crowded and the employers seemed overworked. The worst part was trying to get out with the roads in total gridlock for 20mins until we were finally on our way to beautiful Perguia.
However, the actual airport itslef was a decent standard with lots of toliets, shops, resturants and information desks just not with any workers in them. Also if you wanted know there are 3 terminals one for domestic flights and two for overseas.
Take my advice if you want to go to Italy don't fly to Rome, but to a smaller quieter one, it will be less hassel.

If you're going to Rome, fly into Fiumicino not Ciampino!!!
Fiumicino is more up to date and easy to get into Central Rome. The train from the airport takes you right into Terminii and then you're away in the centre.
I know that transport from Ciampino can be a nightmare too!!!
I hope it didn't spoil your trip to that beautiful country.

Sorry for low rating but there are only a couple of lines on the airport facilties themselves and that is the point of the review category. If you update let me know and I'll rerate for you. Lexy

Advantages: Friendly staff, easy to go through, close to Rome Disadvantages: Few shops/cafes, getting back there from Rome can be a bit more complicated.
