Plan your trip to enjoy your time in this city.
Review of Rome (Italy) by jema_00

Advantages: Lots to see, in a small amount of space and some very kind people.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive if you have not done your research.

I have been to Rome twice, about 5 years apart and I saw a HUGE difference in the city. Both times I stayed in the historic centre, the most central, beautiful and expensive area to stay. Although there are good deals to be found, if there are a few of you going I would look into renting a flat, between four of us in cost £350 per couple for 5 days for a good sized flat about 2 min walk from the Spanish steps. Really nice, two bathrooms, bedroom ...
...changes about the centre of Rome is that the food has got really bad and expensive. I had vivid memorise of buying cheap, fresh pizza and local wine outside our hotel in the Trevi area for about £3. A sit down meal was far more expensive, but good. The next time I went the cost has soared and quality was dire! But do not give up; there is still the ability to get a decent meal for a fair price. The Jewish quarters are worth a look and the main area ... Read review

Energetic and awesome
Review of Rome in general by eviltass

Advantages: full of life, showing feelings, traffic
Disadvantages: Hostel in rome, two short

...To be a pedestrian in Rome it was a nightmare, a complete bloody nigtmare if you are used to have sidewalks. They have none. Offcourse, we saw this big things too: Colosseum, the fountain, Vatican state and that historical monument of ruins just nearby the Colosseum. It was great fun to watch those enormous buildings and the houses in general in Rome. The people in general was very hepful and kind and very godd at gesticulate and look sincerely ... Read review

Sightseeing tourbus -Trambus open
Review of Getting around in Rome by cherries53

Advantages: Gets you around city with multi lingual commentry
Disadvantages: Long queues and finding where to buy tickets

You can buy tickets to ride the trambusopen in the main bus station near the Termini. Two-day tickets cost euros. You can hop on and off the bus at will and multi-lingual commentary is available via headphones provided when you board the bus. Queuing and paying for the tickets took us hours! This was in early October 2005. Have your euros ready, as they only seem to accept credit cards in restaurants. Once aboard the vantage point is most enviable ... Read review

My Rome!
Review of Rome in general by MattyP007

Advantages: Breathtaking Place
Disadvantages: The begging

My girlfriend and I visited Rome in November 2006 and I would highly recommend it. We went for 5 days and I have to admit it was enough, we got to see so much in those 5 days, the sun was shining the sights amazing and the company suberb. We saw so much, my one gripe would be that everything was too tourist orientated. You were hurded into each attration like cattle, everyone pushed and crammed together - which was these are ancient historical landmarks ...
...to look around and it's a great place to cool off from the hot sun (as it was baking the day we visited). I really hope that if any of the Ciao Community are planning a trip to Rome they enjoy it was much as we did. ... Read review

Veni, vidi, er.... Roma
Review of Rome (Italy) by skintbutchic

Advantages: Amazing historical city, great food, great wine (great souvenirs), beautiful
Disadvantages: Tourist masses can induce demophobia, umbrella men, deciding what to do

...amount of information available about Rome and what to do there. I went with my ex-boyfriend ( it was his Christmas present to me), and whilst I have a degree in Art History, hewas an engineer who loves cooking and I wanted the visit to be enjoyable for both of us and not just traipsing form one museum to the other. We only had three days, not enough to do justice to such a great place, but we were not that well off and I'd never been to Italy (even ...
...someone's motivation for going to Rome is in January if they don't want to see old stuff. Anyway, on the way back to the hotel there's were numerous places to get an espresso (one euro) and warm up. Again, I fear it was boring for my ex as I wanted to practise my Italian, and he just felt left otu. SO I curbed my enthusiasm in that regard and insisted we drink some Prosecco (very cheap in Rome, as it's local) and we discoverd it went very well with ... Read review
