Great quality and location, inexpensive price
Review of Jolly Hotel Villa Carpegna, Rome by
LucyOCS
Advantages: Inexpensive for it's quality and location, very polite staff, very quiet
Disadvantages: Expensive restaurant
...Carpegna hotel, part of the Jolly hotels chain. It seemed to be within walking distance of the centre of Rome, fairly inexpensive for Rome (£90 per room per night), and had four stars. I duly booked it.
The hotel lived up to all expectations, in fact I've never stayed in such a plush hotel. It was only a 30 minute walk to the Vatican (and a very cheap taxi ride back at night) and situated in a nice safe area. A very good buffet breakfast was included ... ...from a 4 star hotel. The staff were all very polite and helpful and all spoke English, and (especially important I think) the hotel was very quiet.
The only slight criticism I would have was of the restaurant. The food was very good, but incredibly over-priced £15-20 for the cheapest main course. We ate there on the first night as we arrived late and couldn't see any nearby restaurants (there are in fact restuarants in the nearby square). I would ...

A friendly staffed hotel
Review of Relais Vaticano, Rome by
funky_frankie888
Advantages: Clean, comfortable, helpful staff
Disadvantages: None!
...is very fast and often wreckless and drivers do not always stop to let pedestrians cross the roads.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and air-conditioned and the atmosphere was very friendly.
I would strongly recommend the Relais Vaticano hotel for short stays. ...

Three cons and a fountain
Review of Trevi Fountain 25, Rome by
proxam
Advantages: A must see in Rome
Disadvantages: It's only a fountain
Ah, the Trevi Fountain. Some would say that it's the most beautiful fountain in all of Rome. Well, I wouldn't know about that - not having visited all 7,000 of them. Ok, that's maybe an exagerration, but there are quite a few of the old fontanas dotted around the eternal city. One thing's for sure though, it's certainly an impressive site...or sight, even.
You would think that such a world famous and much visited tourist attraction would be situated ... ...when you've arrived at the Trevi Fountain - the street sign and the appearance of a rather large cascade of sparkling aqua should give you a clue, but if that doesn't do it for you then the huddled masses and click'n'whirr of countless photographic implements will. Still not sure you're at a major tourist attraction? The hawkers and street vendors aggressively punting their 'high' quality tat should put you straight.
There's quite a bit of history ...

SUMMIT? JUST THE OPPOSITE!
Review of Summit Roma Hotel, Rome by
comdaily
Advantages: continental breakfast; outdoors swimming pool
Disadvantages: THE ENTIRE HOTEL BADLY NEEDS RESTORATION, REFURBISHING & SANITATION!
I stayed at Summit from 14th to 16th May 2008. Location is TRAGIC. It is not in Rome, franklly speaking, it is hardly in Rome. Rather in some village. It takes 3 (THREE) hours to walk from Colosseum (and other places of interest) to Summit. Going by bus will hardly help as the bus runs once per hour. The place itself is easily recognizable by a smell of horseshit. There are marks of water on the walls and ceilings in all parts of the hotel. And it ... ...swimming pool - but I saw no one there. The breakfast is served only from 7 am - even if we had to leave to Rome for the forum and conference (which, thank God, was not held at "Summit") at 7:45 already. The food is good but standard (the sausage, omelette, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, juice, coffee, pastries). The reception demands 100 EUR from you as the deposit in case you'd drink all contents of the minibar. In the room itself there is only a shower ...

Pisana Palace more like Pisana Hostel
Review of Pisana Palace, Rome by
kimberley1986
Advantages: Nice resturant
Disadvantages: Far out, dated, horrid
What a terrible hotel.
We went to Rome in April and booked this Hotel through Expedia as it was stated at 4*.
Upon arrival to the Hotel, it was all old fashioned and quite dingey. Inside the carpets had stain's on and the Hotel lobby was very basic, few chairs dotted around. The staff were not exactly friendly and didnt like to be put out of their way to help you.
There were 3 telephone booths in the lobby, one for cards and 2 for cash.
The lifts ... ...were quite small.
Upon getting to the room we wernt expecting much from what we had already seen compared to Expedia's website of the hotel. Once inside the room there was a bathroom which had a bath/shower, toilet, beday, and sink set in what looked like marble. The marble had a chunk missing and the bathroom door and frame had started rotting. So much for complimentary shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and towels! There was 2 sachets of shampoo/body ...
