An expensive Roman orgy!
Review of Valadier Hotel, Rome by ultracoolgiovanni

Advantages: location, beautiful rooms, clean, tidy, rooftop terrace
Disadvantages: staff are unwelcoming at first

...so I decided upon the Valadier hotel due to its reasonable prices, good write up on a few traveling websites and its location. Set off on a cobbled side street off the Piazza del Popolo, the hotel has 60 guest rooms and is approximately 35km (approximately 21 miles) from Fuimicino Airport and is within walking distance of the Rome metro system and most of the main sights to see when visiting Rome. In terms of distance, the Spanish Steps are only ...
...a hotel named after Giuseppe Valadier who designed the Piazza del Popolo in the early 1800s. As I approached the front doors after finally finding the side street off the Piazza del Popolo I was filled with a sense of dread. I had paid 170 Euros (approximately £130) per night for a standard double room so was expecting a pretty top notch hotel only to be greeted by a rather dull façade that looked grimy and in need of a good sandblasting. The fears ... Read review

Roman gem
Review of Best Western Hotel Mondial, Rome by angieluvslycee

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: None

Stopped in this hotel last August and was very satisfied with the overall experience. The hotel is within walking distance from the main railway termini which is ideal for the half hourly service to da vinci airport, although a taxi from the termini is recommended if arriving at night.Check in was easy, the lobby is very small so felt a little cramped when there was a few people around. The staff were very friendly and helpful when asked for directions ...
...the main ancient roman sites are within walking distance ie coloseum, trevi fountain, pantheon, spanish steps, forum. The room was in need of a refurb but was a good size and very clean and tidy, the shower was over the bath but worked brilliant, the bed was big and very comfy. The air con worked great which is needed if you visit in summer like we did. There are many wonderful restaurants close by all serving lovely food which you would expect in Italy, most ... A Mummy-mummy. I've slept in a pyramid!
Review of Hotel Pyramid, Rome by ben-lloyd

Advantages: Cheap, clean, friendly, accessible, genuine "Roman" area, big breakfast.
Disadvantages: No lifts, not as close to town as other options.

...I stumbled across The Pyramid Hotel whilst making a last minute booking for a two day break for my wife and I in December 2005 and we have just returned from our long-awaited sojourn. I chose the Pyramid because from the description supplied at www.alpharooms.com the hotel seemed to be close to a metro station which is generally a must when having a city break and it was also very cheap for one nights Bed & Breakfast. The hotel is officially listed ...
...station. From the outside, the hotel is relatively non-descript and if you did not have a vague idea of where to look you may miss the door. Once through the automatic door, you are immediately in a very small reception tastefully kitted out like every other two-star hotel I have ever visited (see my review of Abbot Lodge - Dublin for example). The hotel is so named after the strange pyramid up the road which was built by a Roman noble in 26BC as ... Read review

A friendly staffed hotel
Review of Relais Vaticano, Rome by funky_frankie888

Advantages: Clean, comfortable, helpful staff
Disadvantages: None!

...is very fast and often wreckless and drivers do not always stop to let pedestrians cross the roads. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and air-conditioned and the atmosphere was very friendly. I would strongly recommend the Relais Vaticano hotel for short stays. ... Read review

Three cons and a fountain
Review of Trevi Fountain 25, Rome by proxam

Advantages: A must see in Rome
Disadvantages: It's only a fountain

Ah, the Trevi Fountain. Some would say that it's the most beautiful fountain in all of Rome. Well, I wouldn't know about that - not having visited all 7,000 of them. Ok, that's maybe an exagerration, but there are quite a few of the old fontanas dotted around the eternal city. One thing's for sure though, it's certainly an impressive site...or sight, even. You would think that such a world famous and much visited tourist attraction would be situated ...
...when you've arrived at the Trevi Fountain - the street sign and the appearance of a rather large cascade of sparkling aqua should give you a clue, but if that doesn't do it for you then the huddled masses and click'n'whirr of countless photographic implements will. Still not sure you're at a major tourist attraction? The hawkers and street vendors aggressively punting their 'high' quality tat should put you straight. There's quite a bit of history ...
