Great quality and location, inexpensive price
Review of Jolly Hotel Villa Carpegna, Rome by LucyOCS

Advantages: Inexpensive for it's quality and location, very polite staff, very quiet
Disadvantages: Expensive restaurant

...Carpegna hotel, part of the Jolly hotels chain. It seemed to be within walking distance of the centre of Rome, fairly inexpensive for Rome (£90 per room per night), and had four stars. I duly booked it. The hotel lived up to all expectations, in fact I've never stayed in such a plush hotel. It was only a 30 minute walk to the Vatican (and a very cheap taxi ride back at night) and situated in a nice safe area. A very good buffet breakfast was included ...
...from a 4 star hotel. The staff were all very polite and helpful and all spoke English, and (especially important I think) the hotel was very quiet. The only slight criticism I would have was of the restaurant. The food was very good, but incredibly over-priced £15-20 for the cheapest main course. We ate there on the first night as we arrived late and couldn't see any nearby restaurants (there are in fact restuarants in the nearby square). I would ... Read review

An expensive Roman orgy!
Review of Valadier Hotel, Rome by ultracoolgiovanni

Advantages: location, beautiful rooms, clean, tidy, rooftop terrace
Disadvantages: staff are unwelcoming at first

...so I decided upon the Valadier hotel due to its reasonable prices, good write up on a few traveling websites and its location. Set off on a cobbled side street off the Piazza del Popolo, the hotel has 60 guest rooms and is approximately 35km (approximately 21 miles) from Fuimicino Airport and is within walking distance of the Rome metro system and most of the main sights to see when visiting Rome. In terms of distance, the Spanish Steps are only ...
...a hotel named after Giuseppe Valadier who designed the Piazza del Popolo in the early 1800s. As I approached the front doors after finally finding the side street off the Piazza del Popolo I was filled with a sense of dread. I had paid 170 Euros (approximately £130) per night for a standard double room so was expecting a pretty top notch hotel only to be greeted by a rather dull façade that looked grimy and in need of a good sandblasting. The fears ... Read review

Ambra Hotel
Review of Golden Tulip Ambra Palace, Rome by starcuregirl

Advantages: great position beautiful building
Disadvantages: a bit pricey but worth it

We stayed for a long weekend in May. The hotel is a beautiful old building which goes back to about about 1850 . Its been completely renovated and has all the mod cons that you would expect in a 4 star hotel. The bedrooms are lovely. We had a double and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price and we had a lovely italian breakfast with rich creamy cappuccinos and italian cakes. the buffet was more on the sweet side but ... Read review

Le Caprice - birthday visit
Review of Caprice Hotel, Rome by TCRAW

Advantages: Well known for celebrity viewing
Disadvantages: Tables close together

Myself, my partner and my teenage son paid a visit to this restaurant for my partner's birthday. It was relatively easy to get a table (although I did book 3 months in advance!). I needed to extend the booking to include my son and they were very pleased to do so. Upon arrival we were shown to our table, which was at the far end of the restaurant but afforded a good view of the entrance (with many personalised plates adorning the cars!) and the ...
...the crispy duck was indeed crispy - bordering on rock hard! The main courses were mouth watering (although they do not come with vegetables and we were not asked if we wanted them at the time of ordering!) The desserts were out of this world (honeycomb ice cream to die for!) and my partner's dessert arrived with 'happy birthday' beautifully piped on the plate. Good value for money, people watching paradise and well worth a visit! ... Read review

...Our visit to the Hotel Melia was an exceptional experience, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back. This is all about how we got there and what it was like during our visit. How we got there. --------------------- It was a little more difficult for us to travel directly to Rome as we live in Inverness in the North of Scotland. Inverness is a city but our airport still doesn't have direct flights to all European and International ... Read review
